I personally prefer XIII and honestly just didn't enjoy this
great game that i have very fond memories of. Unfortunately, the port isnt great. CTD's and also crashes steam (4x in 6 hours)! If you can handle that, then its worth playing if you save frequently. However, just watch a playthrough or play the original on xbox if crashes bug you.

Improves a lot from the first, pacing wise and just overall. The soundtrack is amazing and in my opinion, one of the most beautiful in the series so far. While I did miss the cast from the original game, the characterization of Caius and his compelling motivation make up for it in a way that leaves you wanting more after each session. I recommend downloading the FF13-2 HD patch on NexusMods for however long it'll be up for if you want the best experience of the game since admittedly, the base game does have its flaws and unfortunately isn't optimized at all compared to its PlayStation 3 counterpart (of course, if you're playing this game, you probably already knew that). The combat is again, very fun! I wasn't really into the monster system at first, but as the game went on I grew to love it just as much as I did the original. The game focuses on Serah and Noel, so they took away the three story-focused party members from the first game and opted for this system instead for the vast majority of the base game. Despite all these changes though, they made the combat still have the same heart as the original while spicing it up and also taking away the (lowkey tedious) grind in the f…
Revised review after one playthrough finished and with plenty of optional content left undone. It's one of the best non-mainline FF games ever, period and a step up from XIII. Literally everything wrong with the base game has been optimized. Also loved the darker tone and the whole quantum shenanigans, even though I know I'm biased when it comes to that. I can't recommend it enough, even as in the previous game, the port is garbage.
