Slashy Hero is a colorful and inventive action-adventure developed by The Gentlebros in collaboration with General Arcade and published by The Gentlebros, offering a playful blend of arcade sensibilities, light RPG progression, and a distinctive control concept. Set in a spooky, candy-themed world where monsters have stolen Halloween treats, the game embraces a humorous tone while delivering a surprisingly content-rich experience. Beneath its cheerful presentation lies a mechanically focused adventure that emphasizes spatial awareness, route planning, and gradual character growth rather than button-mashing reflexes alone. The core of Slashy Hero’s identity is its unique movement and combat system, which combines both actions into a single gesture-based mechanic. Instead of using traditional directional controls and attack buttons, players draw a path that simultaneously moves the hero and slashes enemies caught along the line. This approach turns every encounter into a small puzzle, as positioning and path planning become just as important as timing. Enemies, traps, and environmental hazards force players to think ahead, plotting safe and efficient routes through crowded rooms rat…

I remember playing this game when I would take my ex to school on the bus every morning I would wake up with her and I would make sure she got to school on time. we were 2 years apart when we met at the time and she was in her senior year. I was in my first semester of college. this game brings back so much good memories of struggling and yeah. this is one of my favorite games. I was sad they took it off the play store.

I played the mobile version of Slashy Hero when I was a kid and became nostalgic for it recently. I couldn't find it because I was looking for the mobile version, which was taken off app stores, but I am glad I found it on Steam. This game is overall a fun little experience, drawing lines through enemies and collecting candy feels good! I recommend using a mouse though I will admit, this mechanic felt a lot more intuitive on mobile using your finger. The only problem I've had is at the end of the game, it gets a bit grindy and tedious, especially for a completionist. The puzzle mechanics that are introduced in the latter portion have great potential and I would've liked to see them be utilized more. The final boss too wasn't that exciting, reusing previous bosses and not a lot of new things happening which left the ending a bit unsatisfying. Not a bad game for a 10 hour experience. If you like games like Cat Quest, you might enjoy Slashy Hero as a lot of people did! My enjoyment with this game comes from a place of nostalgia so my gripes might be biased, though I tried to keep my criticism fair.

The Gentlebros have come a long way from here with CatQuest. This game isn't too bad if you have a mouse, but I have only been gaming on my Steam Deck and playing it there is pretty rough. The best way I have found to do so is by mapping the left thumbstick to WASD and then using the touch screen to draw the attack path, but that's still a little awkward. I can't recommend this game on the Deck, but if you are a fan of the Gentlebros and play on a mouse and keyboard, it may be worth picking up on sale.

Simple yet addicting with tons of levels and equipment. The cultural references are strong with this one.
