What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Spooky Heroes is widely criticized for being poorly constructed and technically inadequate, with major complaints about the lack of graphics options, fixed 4:3 aspect ratio, unresponsive controls, and low-quality visuals that appear to use placeholder assets. Players also report numerous bugs and balance issues throughout the game, though some appreciate that individual boss designs have unique attack patterns. The game is generally not recommended unless you're specifically seeking out its quirks or achievement hunting.

Spooky Heroes is a really badly made 2D platformer brawler with some lightweight adventure/RPG elements. It's difficult to qualify just how badly made this is, as there's very few games that are this badly made to compare to. Certainly, this makes high level flops like Gollum look like artisinal masterpieces. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game features simple, cartoony 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort mobile apps. 3D graphics programming does require a degree of skill and competence and unfortunately not all developers have the budget or talent to deliver this, despite 3D graphics cards hitting the mainstream in the 1990's. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers …3 found this helpful
A primitive, undeveloped, fully defective amateur attempt at a platformer game that is full of bugs, lousy with hideous artwork, and having truly atrocious controls. - There are no options or settings to speak of. Audio volume must be adjusted through the operating system, and the aspect ratio is fixed at 4:3. For a game released in 2016, this is completely unacceptable. - The overall visual presentation gives the impression that graphical assets were created using simple software like Microsoft Paint, and all texts appear to have been prepared using a basic word processor, even maintaining a font that is commonly used for writing, and not for a graphical user interface. - Controls are imprecise and unresponsive. Using the keyboard or gamepad produces the same ungainly results, as maneuvering the playable character through the stages and attacking enemies is a thoroughly cumbersome and miserable experience. - Enemies act in erratic and in malfunctioning modes of movement and behavior. It is as if the programming lacks any real responsive direction, or as if the scripted actions and reactions have been inadequately defined for each determination. - Bugs and glitches are present in …1 found this helpful
https://youtu.be/TVpV8IpvRy8 Many axes of play are poorly structed or in some way broken with little apparent regard for long term balance.
Control and graphic are not worth the money. I do like that each boss has its own attacks tho. Warning: if you want to see the following things pls buy the game: Random rocks falling in the sky with no sound effects nor shadows Goblin throws tiny bouncing ball and hit you for 1/8 health Ogres light attack you and stun you for 2 seconds Only 1 specific pixel of the mushroom can bounce you up Strange bugs like boss won't attack, introduce day/night system at half way of play though You ask me why I still play this game? I have OCD and I want every achievement.
