It's another cheap 2D Shoot 'em up game but not worth pay 99 cents for. Level design is uninspiring. Enemies move too fast and their attack patterns are too fast to memorize. And the controls feel broken especially with the default key settings. No extra lives and no continues. I Can't get past the 1st stage. Weapon power ups are disappointing and the music is not the worst I've heard but compared to games like Zed Blade and Gradius, it's nowhere near the level of those 2. And in terms of challenge, it doesn't come as close to games like Radiant Silvergun or Ikaruga. My final rating for AF-Zero is a 4.75 out of 10. If you REALLY want a good 2D Shooter here, Try Raiden III or Raptor: Call of the Shadows. Or for consoles, try R-Type Dimensions on Xbox 360, PS4 & Nintendo Switch, Galaga on any device, or Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth for the Nintendo 64

AF-ZERO is a poorly made 2D retro pixel vertical scrolling arcade bullet hell/shoot 'em up with a sci-fi/spaceships theme (ho-hum). Putting aside the fact there's hundreds of better shmups on Steam, even if this was the only one you wouldn't want to play it. It's just that badly made, every aspect of the game is poorly assembled, from the phoned in graphics to the sheer lack of polish and finesse in the control scheme. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game only displays in roughly 1:…

Developed by Recompile and published by SA Industry, AF-ZERO is an independent vertical scrolling shoot 'em up that pays tribute to the arcade classics that helped define the genre. Built around fast reflexes and straightforward action rather than modern progression systems, it places players in the cockpit of an advanced experimental fighter during a crisis on a lunar military installation. An unknown alien virus has infected the base's automated defenses, turning once-friendly machines into relentless enemies. As the pilot of the only unaffected combat craft, Vania Scorpion must push through hostile territory, uncover the origin of the infection, and stop the outbreak before it spreads beyond the moon. While the narrative is intentionally uncomplicated, it establishes enough context to give purpose to the nonstop combat that follows. The game's greatest strength lies in its commitment to traditional shoot 'em up design. AF-ZERO offers seven handcrafted stages filled with enemy formations, dangerous obstacles, and challenging boss encounters that steadily increase in intensity. Each level introduces fresh layouts and hazards, ensuring the campaign maintains momentum without becom…

I love the janky hand-drawn graphics and the completely uneven difficulty that messes with you until you figure it out. There is a rhythm to a few of the bosses that makes them a lot of fun to complete. Also, the ending of this game is hilariously bad and the best thing I have ever seen.
