TY the Tasmanian Tiger 4

[b]For context I have 100% this game AND got all achievements.[/b] This game feels like an unofficial flash game. It's so strange. The character movement is absolutely terrible for a platformer. The controls are incredibly floaty, but also poorly programmed. Normally with platformers the character will pivot on a center point so landing on platforms is accurate and smooth, but I swear the developers accidentally put the pivot point at the back of the sprite instead, so it pivots REALLY wide, making it sometimes impossible to land on platforms below you as you're just pivoting from side to side. I spent AN HOUR trying to get one of the koala kids, until I realised this game is so poorly programmed, the jump was impossible to make unless I capped my framerate at 60fps. Didn't realise we were still tying game physics to framerate. Thought that was something Bethesda had a patent on. Then some of the tiles in the tile set have artifacting. It's like they forgot the backgrounds were supposed to be transparent, so they used the magic wand tool in Photoshop to remove the white background, but it left some artifacting and they didn't care to clean it up. It feels unfair to compare this game to the previous 3 installments of the game, considering back then Krome had the big budget publishing of EA behind it. But slapping a "4" on the game's name, makes it a bit hard not to. I grew up playing the first two Ty games, never played the 3rd and frankly didn't even know it existed. So when i saw a Ty game on steam, before they remastered and re-realeased the first 3 games on PC, i bought it. And can't say i'm impressed. And this is not because it goes from a 3D game to a 2D game but because it just feels floaty and unpolished, and even unfair at times. I've been killed numerous times by either flying enemies or enemies in water that just pop out from terrain, not like nose sticking out to give you a fair warning that "An enemy will charge out from here" no, i swim down a tunnel, and out from the side an eel just pops out and kills me. There's also annoying sand throwing crabs that lurk on the bottom, so have fun swimming down in any water level and getting hit out of nowhere because a crab that's out of view, threw a projectile that you couldn't even see on screen, because Ty when swimming down is not in the center or top of the scree…

"All that glitters is not gold" This game isn't an exception. Visually it looks just like Ty the Tasmanian Tiger comics, but as you start the game you instantly will notice how unresponsive controls are, and it's even worse on controllers. Quite often Ty for no particular reason does super small jump instead of regular one and you'll find yourself falling from the cliffs because of that. In addition, every 2nd input left unregistered, unless you're pressing buttons with significant delay. For whatever reason game just throws you back to the main menu after completing all missions in act? They couldn't manage to make some sort of a hub area and instead put skin shop and rang shop in the same main menu. They've done it in the first Ty and suddenly can't do it in 2D platformer? Alongside this the most annoying issue so far, there are a bunch of others, like certain moving platforms starting to move asynchronous after few minutes, making jumping puzzles for collectibles impossible to beat and even at least one side mission with frog Dennis is outright nonfunctional, because it requires you to defend pipelines from incoming lizards, but it immediately fails because those lizards ins…

TY the Tasmanian Tiger 4 takes the familiar Australian hero in a noticeably different direction, replacing the broad 3D platforming of earlier adventures with a 2D side-scrolling format. Rather than attempting to recreate the scale of its predecessors, it delivers a more focused experience built around platforming, boomerang combat, collectibles, and straightforward level progression. Developed and published by Krome Studios, the game retains the colorful Australian personality of the series even though its structure is considerably more compact. The adventure sends TY across the Australian Outback through 40 levels filled with enemies, environmental hazards, collectibles, and familiar characters. Movement is easy to understand, and the stages generally emphasize accessible platforming rather than severe precision challenges. This makes the game welcoming to newcomers and younger players, although experienced platforming fans may find some sections relatively easy. It's capturing the feel of the 3D titles pretty well I think, the controls can be a bit finicky, though, especially in tight spots. The art direction is once again pretty great; the sprites are beautiful and the soundtrack follows the quality of the main games pretty well. It has its problems, though. Apart from the aforementioned controls it's pretty easy to get stuck in walls, both visually and physically. Opals also sometimes drop out of bounds which is a bummer. I played the game mostly on Steam Deck so I don't know if it's due to that, it ran fine outside of that mostly. I had to add mouse input to navigate certain menus but gameplay-wise it's flawless, even when limiting the APU's TDP to 10w. Overall I'm pretty pleased. It's no Ty 2, but it doesn't try to be and for a game that was originally commissioned to be a Windows 8 store exclusive it's pretty neat. The name is a bit unfortunate, though, and probably the reason some people are so disappointed.
