About Cally's Trials

It's time for Cally to do what she does best: rescuing her kidnapped parents!

Set before the events of Cally's Caves 3, Cally's Trials is a roguelike action-platformer with a weapon-levelling system that lets you evolve weapons as you use them. Cally must save her parents from the maniacal Herbert, who has laid waste to the Caves and built a massive lair deep inside.
Herbert's experiments have twisted the caves into a living nightmare, and our plucky six-year-old heroine must overcome staggering odds:
  • 110 levels packed with vile monsters to fight across 6 biomes
  • 6 insane bosses, including Mama Bear's first appearance, and Carl IV's Dad.
  • 12 weapon classes to level up, use your weapons and they grow stronger, every once in a while they evolve into a new form with new effects!
  • Item/Powerup Store to buy permanent upgrades for Cally
  • 38 song soundtrack
  • roguelike structure means earning money on every run and buying upgrades is crucial to success

Cally's Trials is a mix of roguelike and RPG, with a "Level Up Everything" sensibility. Witness the beginning of Cally's journey from average 6-year-old girl, to fearless warrior and Conqueror of the Caves!

i used to play it on the ipad. its a metroidvania. I'm indifferent, but I believe the later installments are much better than this one.

This game is just... not good. The game play itself is boring after a while, as the level are similar, with pretty much no different in term of game play. The game will drag out slightly on purpose by adding level that you cannot pass through without buying the "optional" upgrade as well. Furthermore, while the game boast about the number of different weapons it has, and despite it is truthful as well, it is actually more of a drag than an actual advantage. The so many weapons are mostly useless, with a few needed for the level itself (unlocking areas) but mostly sitting there doing nothing. Once you find a few that's useful to you, you will waste most of the time changing weapon, since you can only go to next weapon at any time. The 12 or so weapons mean that you will need to constantly shuffling through the whole list before getting to the one you need. An option to set a few favourite weapon for quick change will be way better. Also, the money needed to buy things are so ridiculously expensive, that after I got to max level and managed the final boss as well as the extra challenge level, I'm still significantly short for buying most of the upgrade.

Nothing really stood out for me to recommend this game to anyone. Everything about it is fairly shallow with the exception of the soundtrack. A story is pretty much non existent so if you really want to play it I guess do as others have mentioned and get the 3rd one.

Slightly Recommended. 6/10* ok, this game is ok, decent-good, at first i really liked it, good looking pixel art, nice gameplay, lot of weapons and upgrades, the game mechanics were ok, it has some minor issues like the camera following you instantly when jumping (i think this could cause nausea to some), but what really made me uninstall it was all the grinding, normally when playing 2d platformers or side scrolling games, i just go along and beat the game, but with this one im going one try, getting coins, dying, then buying upgrades, then trying again, then dying and over and over again, maybe its not because bad game design and its just me who sucks at the game, but got bored of doing the same levels again and again. still im not giving a negative review cause i really liked it when i liked it, is just that i stopped doing so.
