DREAMGATE

Bought it on sale and it was okay enough. But it's not finished and although the devs say they haven't abandoned it, they've moved on to other projects and realistically, this is probably going to be in "Early Access" forever because they lack the discipline to finish it. So there are bugs and balance issues. Ultimately, the experience for the player resembles that of the devs. It's fun enough at first, but eventually you notice enough small problems that you just lose the motivation to go further. There are enough card battlers out there that you don't need to waste your time on something unfinished.

But I'll give this game a negative review. Yes this game was Abandoned; Per the Early Access notice the developers last updated the game 5 years ago. So knowing this I still played. They added a nice chunk of characters, some other enemies, new cards etc.. with their last patch. But they appeared to have left bugs in this game. The first 2 hours of playing I found 2 bugs related to cards that literally harm your play. 2 different cards just don't work, and honestly they seem like some powerful cards. Then I ran into the an Achievement bug preventing me from 100% this game. I spent 10 hours hunting for this achievement in total, the first time taking me roughly 7 hours to find the achievement wouldn't trigger. The 2nd attempt took me probably about 3 hours. Why did I try it again... well I thought since the first time I killed the “thief” I used a character from the last update. Thinking maybe that was the problem I kept playing with one of the core 3 characters. Well.... after killing the Thief yet again t…

Honestly? I did not think much of Dreamgate, when I started it. I play on Mac and there are just not a lot of games that you can play. After spending A LOT of time in Slay the Spire I tried this. It was fun. After 1-2 years I found it again and boy, it still is a lot of fun. This is not the most complex game you will ever play. But there are tons of things to do, a lot of characters and combinations. And it is "easy to learn, hard to beat".

Im a great fan of games of this genre, so even though the reviews in this were all over the place, I gave it a shot at a nice sale for 4 euro. After playing a few rounds and beating the game with 1 char on normal mode, I feel...meh... The game feels soulless, like they took a textbook on how to make a RPG deckbuilder and did exactly that, no more no less. I'm pretty sure I will play a few more games to try out the different heroes, but its just not that interesting to play, nor to unlock any of the roguelike upgrades. Overall 5/10, buy only on good sale and if you've already finished the better games in this genre.
