Squinting, eyelashes battling the rain, you catch a glimpse of a large object that you are hurtling towards. You brace yourself for impact, for death, confused and terrified and –

You are on the deck of a ship, rain pummelling the wooden boards around you. You look up to see four shadowy figures on the bridge, gazing into the distance, with an old man at the helm.

Soul Axiom Rebooted delivers a solid mix of first-person puzzle-solving and sci-fi storytelling. The puzzles are varied enough to stay engaging, often requiring clever use of the game's unique abilities. While the narrative can be a bit abstract at times, the world-building does a good job of keeping you curious. A worthwhile pick for fans of story-driven puzzle adventures.

Checking in from 2026, this was still an enjoyable puzzler. No, the graphics area not 2026 AAA visions but they completely fit within the aesthetic of the game. The puzzles are varied and require some thought. What I enjoyed was that the game does not hold your hand and point you to the puzzle. The power mechanics are introduced and once you have those basics down the game drops you into a level and says "Go." and you need to determine how to apply your powers and solves the puzzles. As the game progresses the number of powers increase and the way to work through the puzzles increase. Expect iterating through some of the puzzles as you have Ah Ha! moments. So that's what I do here. There is a plot but it was rather secondary. I know mostly what was happening but was more interested in trying the next set of puzzles. Thumbs up if you like puzzlers in the vein Qube, Light Matter, reThink, etc.

Soul Axiom Rebooted is a visually striking, story-driven puzzle adventure set in a digital afterlife; its atmosphere and ideas make it unique, though the gameplay can feel slow and more about exploration than action.

Soul Axiom Rebooted
Soul Axiom Rebooted is a simple story-driven puzzle game. The remake feels a little unnecessary, there are some nice new features but I feel VR and Switch support ultimately held them back in improving the game visually, which already looked very dated when it released 4 years prior. The game also has quite a few bugs that ultimately aren't getting fixed now. I enjoyed my time with the game but I recommend buying it on a sale.
Gameplay
If you play a lot of puzzle games you will breeze through this, puzzle design is simple, you gain powers throughout the game which you can use on objects, this is usually very surface-level and isn't often difficult. Level-design is non-linear so you are pretty free to explore and sometimes do the level in your own order. Soul Axiom has similarities to games like Talos Principle in it's Hubworld, you can play levels for each chapter in any order and there's convenient areas for checking missed collectibles or to re-watch curscenes. The Hub allows you to replay levels and each level has a shorter "corrupted" version you can unlock. Despite my enjoyment of the game, there are a lot of bugs that ruin…

very linear puzzle solver with a lot of story. and you do need to pay attention to the story. some of the puzzles solutions require understanding whats going on in the story. lots of bugs and glitches. i had to restart a lot of levels because the puzzles didnt act properly or things didnt activate when the puzzle was solved. specifically on the train level, one of the pads you need to launch to the next train didnt work until i restarted the game completely. then there was another level where you had to form a key from a cart full of wood, but when the key inserted into the lock and made the "completed" noise, the door didnt open. the resolution for this was just to restart from checkpoint but i fooled around for 15 minutes before realizing something wasnt working right. it took me about 9 hours to finish the storyline and see all 3 endings. you can see all 3 without having to replay the entire game. but this is only actually about halfway through the game as each level has a secondary version you can play through as well. 100% the game at 13 hours

I played the whole game in VR and would recommend this big time. Enjoyed the puzzling and searching very much as it was on exactly the right level of challenge so everytime I played the game I would get a big further into the story because you really want to know what the heck is this is all about. It kept me busy for over 20 hours and was well worth the money. I played this streaming from my desktop pc with the Steam app on a Meta Quest 2 and that worked great.
