✦ AI summary

Queen's Wish is praised for delivering solid, straightforward tactical RPG gameplay with excellent UI design, engaging story about moral ambiguity, and challenging combat in a respectable 50-hour package that appeals to story-driven players. However, some players find it overly simplistic with minimal tactical depth, limited dialogue variety, and unclear objectives that make it feel less rewarding than other Spiderweb Software titles.

Developed and published by Spiderweb Software, Queen's Wish: The Conqueror is a role-playing game that proudly embraces the traditions of classic computer RPGs while delivering a surprisingly fresh take on empire-building and personal choice. Instead of placing players in the role of a destined hero saving the world, the game casts you as the child of the Queen of Haven, sent to a distant and rebellious frontier colony with the task of restoring the empire's influence. What initially appears to be a straightforward mission quickly becomes a complex political journey where loyalty, ambition, and morality constantly collide. Rather than dictating a single path, the narrative encourages players to decide what kind of leader they want to become. You can faithfully expand your mother's rule, sympathize with local factions, pursue diplomacy, or carve out an entirely independent future, making every major decision feel like it carries genuine political and personal weight. One of the game's strongest qualities is the remarkable amount of freedom it gives players throughout the campaign. Exploration is never treated as a simple checklist but instead serves as the foundation of the experie…

So it is a spiderweb software game. You know what that is if you are here, if not it is a game made by a dude, his wife, and a handful of people who get contracted on occasion, it will be a very classical style of computer RPG, and the writing will have a particular flavor to it, a love more of talking about the world itself and the relationship those individuals have to the world/political situation at large. This game hits all of those notes but tragically experimented in a way that was not the best received. This game is not pretty, even by Spiderweb standards because the design is meant to quickly and accurately communicate the state of the battlefield, it is a wonderfully set up map, if you are judging it as more of a tabletop RPG encounter, this is built for you to look at the field, know everything and make sure you can learn what all the pieces on the board do so that you can have a handful of short but vicious fights on that map, achieve what you went there to do, and move on to the next thing you need to do, the next decision you need to make. Because that is what this game is, political and moral choices that can come with consequences down the road broken up by som…

Great game! It does a lot of things different than most CRPGs I've played, but I think the swings it takes in gameplay pay off for the most part. Even with how simple the graphics are, there's a lot of experience here, knowing how to make easily usable and readable UIs with enjoyable world and dungeon maps, even with just basic tiles. Really liked the story and how it explored how the banality of evil can seep into any culture. It also only took around 50 hours, which is brisk for this genre. Gets a thumbs up from me.

Very little signposting, very little in the way of tactics. Most dialogue choices are different flavors of 'yes'. I came in wanting to like it, and I'm just not sure I do.

Great stuff if you like story-driven RPGs and don't mind 90s-style graphics.
