Promenade

This game absolutely deserves more attention than it has gotten, and I'm here to change that. Its basically Mario 64 in 2d, and made with a ton of TLC. While it may look a bit basic from the videos, I assure you that this is an S tier game for it's genre. I'm not even going to say more, just trust....

Wow! What an inventive and imaginative game! It's got great platforming and you will never be bored with all of the new mechanics the developers throw at you. It's got all of the qualities of a triple A title, don't miss this one, it's AWESOME!

Super fun

Promenade is a charming 2D platforming adventure built around exploration, creative movement, puzzle solving, and the satisfying pursuit of collectibles. Developed and published by Holy Cap, it takes many of the ideas commonly associated with classic collectathon platformers and adapts them to a side-scrolling format. Instead of pushing players through a rigid sequence of stages, the game encourages curiosity and gives them room to decide where to explore and which challenges to complete. Its colorful presentation initially makes the adventure appear simple and relaxed, but underneath that welcoming exterior is a surprisingly thoughtful platformer with plenty of mechanical depth. The adventure centers on repairing a massive elevator by collecting golden cogs scattered throughout the world. These cogs serve as the main form of progression, allowing the elevator to reach additional locations as enough are recovered. Individual cog fragments are earned through exploration, puzzles, platforming challenges, hidden discoveries, races, and other activities. A 2D Mario Odyssey, and a really impressive one. It's really fun to explore the world and collect all the gears (stars). The only downside I can think of is that it requires a fair amount of platforming skill, especially if you want to complete all the extra content. Very nice looking but Unfortunately inoffensive. The game looks very nice with the hand drawn art style. One issue that is presented by it though is that platforms aren't Cleary separated properly from the background. Outlining or some kind of visual technique to make platforms more obvious would've been a great help to the game. The lack of foreground and background separation along with poor visual indication/feedback of how a move will interact with the environment held back the movement mechanics from being more enjoyable than they could be. The rolling mechanics which emphasizes horizontal faster ground movement conflicts with the slower plodding klonoa style enemy jump system. Maybe there is a better way to marry them together but it didn't really feel in the beginning moments like they were really trying to push either of them in interesting ways outside of a few examples. Collecting the little cogs is fun but the collection animation probably lasted too long especially for how many of them you're supposed to collect. I understand the desire for a developer to want to ease a player into an experience but maybe it's prudent to realize that a lot of games on the SNES/NE…
