The Dark Rites of Arkham

Fun mystery, good music, good graphics/art and good length. Worth it.

It's okay. There is a certain twist to the Cthulhu story, which makes it a little bit more interesting, but it doesnt invent anything new. I really wish it had voice acting though. All in all from riddles to characters to world building it was mid. I would recommend it at a discount.

Would recommend as a flawed point and click. I went in not realizing it was lovecraftian and from that perspective it's a bit jarring how the lovecraftian elements are stringed together. On one hand it's like the people in this setting will treat the lovecraftian as commonplace, and yet they will also at times treat it with extreme skepticism. It also felt a little weird how nonchalant the characters were, they act like walking into the gates of Oblivion is just another Friday for them. One of the characters even makes this quip, "just another friday". This game is trying to balance on an awkward line between being a realistic setting intruded upon by lovecraftian horrors, or being a realistic setting with existing lovecraftian anachronisms. The overall world just doesn't feel properly lived in, moreso it is a collection of horror elements rather than containing them. This pattern shows up in what I'll call plots - mini arcs with new locations - which act as just a brief glimpse of the different lovecraftian corners of this world. I really like it so far, but if I could deduct points from a "Recommended" rating it would be, that the game is NOT voice acted at all, which is misleading if you watch the (voiced) trailer. The game would be "infinitely" more atmospheric and immersive if the devs spent some money on VAs..

Absolute stunner. The atmosphere, the puzzles, the pixel graphics, the music, the story. Get this! And afterwards try Nightmare Frames (act 1 a bit weak but act 2 is amazing).

What an incredible game! As a fan of H.P. Lovecraft's works (despite their... unfortunate context) I'm a huge fan of this. This feels like the 90's Lovecraft Horror Point nad Click Adventures, i.e. Prisoner of Ice, In the Shadow of the Comet, but with the polish of a modern engine and sound design. I cannot stress how good this is, A good 10-12 hour experience for less than 20$ with excellent art direction, wonderful writing, and outstanding sound design. I have yet to play the developer's other titles but this has cemented that i will, in fact, be getting them. The egregious Point-and-Click logic of the 90's is present but the solutions are made far more obvious in comparison and characters comment on it, which gives the game a lot of charm! It has a ton of humor and had me audibly laughing, and the game is very well balanced when it comes to exploration and how long areas are relevant. Nothing overstays its welcome and I was drawing my own conclusions until near the very end. I especially appreciate how the world is very fleshed out, lots of the source material is canon and represented, the many references are subtle and tasteful, and i was consistently relating to our two ma…
