Necronomicon: The Dawning of Darkness

Beautiful game, one that I enjoy replaying from time to time and getting lost in its dark and unsettling atmosphere. If you are a Lovecraft fan, you absolutely shouldn’t miss 'Necronomicon: The Dawning of Darkness', inspired by the short story “The Case of Charles Dexter Ward”. The names and characters differ slightly from Lovecraft’s original tale, but the story is more or less the same, despite what the game’s title might lead you to believe. Towards the ending, the plot falters a bit. I’ve never quite understood why perhaps the development team ran into some issues and was forced to put together a somewhat rushed and confusing finale. It’s a shame, but nothing too serious, the adventure as a whole is still very solid. Another minor criticism concerns the puzzles, which are often frustrating and a bit nonsensical. Feel free to consult a guide if you find yourself truly stuck. Finally, one last small note: in the Steam guides page you can find a sort of patch. You just have to replace a file in the folder. I spent 4 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hours in this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a game after being convinced by my friend to play it who tapped out at hour 2. I want to kill 1. the creator of this game for taking 4 of my life, which I will never see again, away from me. and 2. myself, for continuing this form of self mutilation for four hours. I think I would rather grind my testicles against a strip of low grit sandpaper til I bled to death then play another second of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ ass game. please for the love of god if you see this review save yourself and remove this game from your library, unless you like psychological torture. This is still a glitchy game. After hours of play, the kit and map randomly disabled so unable to complete the final tranche of game. I remember it being glitchy years ago and was hoping Steam version was better than the disk: Nope. Also, many of the video segments didn't play.
