About Dreams in the Witch House
Whether the dreams brought on the fever or the fever brought on the dreams Walter Gilman
did not know. - H.P. Lovecraft, The Dreams in the Witch House

Arkham, Massachusetts 1929. Walter Gilman, a promising math student, has just moved to the city and is starting his studies at Miskatonic University. The Dombrowski’s boarding house where he resides has a bad reputation, but Walter doesn’t mind the old rumors... Until the dreams start. A hideous scheme is underway, and if Walter is not careful, it could cost him more than his life. It could cost him his soul.
Dreams in the Witch House is a unique mix of classic point and click adventure and open world RPG. The gameplay is nonlinear and many of the elements are generated randomly, making each playthrough different.
You have two months to prepare Walter for the dreaded May-Eve. How you spend the time is completely up to you: concentrate on studies, get friends and stay in good physical and mental state. Or explore the old rumours, read the forbidden books at Miskatonic University, and work on your occult thesis. Or just stay in bed, and hope that it all goes away!
Based on the short story "The Dreams in the Witch House" by H.P. Lovecraft.

This game is AWESOME! Don't let it fool you; it isn't as simple as it appears on the surface. FYI there is nothing resembling a walkthrough available and this game is HARD and easy to screw up if you miss any little thing. Don't expect to play it once and get the good ending. The story is amazing through and it's weirdly addictive. If you can't figure out how to get Dr. Armitage to talk to you about the things in the your room, hit me up geeky_equestrian @ yahoo . com I had to play the damn game twice to figure it out and still almost missed it.2 found this helpful
I was drawn to this game because I liked its visual style, and like the point-and-click genre, and because it purported to adapt H. P. Lovecraft's short story of the same name. Indeed, it is a very good adaptation of the story. When it diverges from the source material, it's to its benefit, fleshing out Walter Gilman's environment and the characters around him to make this engaging as an adventure game, as well as a sort of RPG/survival hybrid. However, my first impression on starting to play it was that it simulates to a frightening degree the feeling of starting college away from home. The various stupid mistakes you can make about basic things like feeding yourself, the substandard living conditions, learning how to learn, balancing between your curriculum and your personal interests... those all make the first run-through of the game its very own thing. It's all done in a way that encouraged me to replay it, despite getting the Worst Ending at first. Each run randomizes certain local and global elements, adding to the sense of discovery. I'm now in the midst of a third playthrough, investigating a specific path, and it will probably not be my last.1 found this helpful
This might be subject to change as I complete a few more "runs" of the game, but I'm both unsure of that and fairly conflicted in my choice to hit the "not recommended" button as of this point in time. It doesn't feel good to do this. Dreams in the Witch House is not my favorite of Lovecraft's stories, not even by a particularly close metric, even when you lower the category to favorite Lovecraft stories involving large rats. By contrast, this game is, in many ways, endlessly engaging - in part because of the many ways it takes that story and expands on it to integrate so much of his mythology. I really enjoyed the bulk of my time with it, and I think it's probably - in theory - one of the best and most faithful-to-the-world Lovecraft adaptations ever made. None of these sorts of games have ever so solidly placed you into the position of one of his protagonists as they navigate the world of the strange and esoteric from the perspective of a somewhat hapless bookworm. This is, in part, because more than a point-and-click, this is a complete life sim - or survival game, almost. University student Walter Gilman needs to get a good sleep, he needs to eat, he needs to study fo…
Really liking what I've played so far. Point and click adventures have very, VERY rarely clicked (heh) for me, but this one has a great formula in that it's really more of a life sim with some investigation mechanics thrown in. This is all super appropriate for a Lovecraft adaption and I'm having a great time. Can't to see what this developer makes in the future, there's a ton of promise here.
Scratched my Outer Wilds itch.
Amazing game and awesome adaptation of Lovecraft´s story. Waiting for their next game!
