Midnight Saga: The Monster

I ignored the negative reviews, and shouldn't have. It has a bunch of flaws, more flaws than positives. Other reviewers have hit upon a number of points, but I want to zero in on one aspect of the story that is illustrative of the problem as a whole. Not too far in, you learn that you have ill-defined powers, and are a "Warden." It's not made clear whether these powers can be used in the real world or only in the "Keeper's timeline." It's also something that is introduced and is immediately accepted and remarked upon, e.g. a character being like "Wow I can't believe you're a Warden," when that character had no idea what the ♥♥♥♥ a Warden was like, yesterday. I'd liken it to if nobody had ever heard of Star Wars, and I told them I am a Jedi. The reactions and process of acceptance should be along the lines of "So you say you're some kind of space wizard? And you have a laser sword?" It shouldn't just be an immediate shift in worldview to accommodate not just concepts of magic and multiple realities and people with powers. This game was such a weird experience for me. I really enjoyed the story and everything that entails it and I'm looking forward for the next books in the series. But the narrative and the pacing are so weird to me. Like, I really liked it, the characters are sweet, the story is interesting and all, but some of the descriptions and the pacing of the last acts were so... Rushed? Anyway, I enjoyed it, and hope to see more of it. Just perhaps if the pacing gets fixed, it will be a way better experience

The story was going fine then [spoiler] the cavalry you did not even know existed saves you.[/spoiler] Are you kidding me I invested my time for that ending.

While I love the story and concept of this game, the actual execution is somewhat lacking and doesn't live up to the standard of other games released by the developer. The writing is quite clunky and lacks subtlety and elegance, while the gameplay often feels like you're being railroaded through a set plot. Ultimately, there's a lot of potential here, but the execution is lacking and lets down the experience.

The writing is good. The characters are fantastic, and I want to spend more time with them. The story is overall very fun, I can't wait for a sequel.
