Civil Purgatory

The concept is great, but the execution is not great. The AI works really well to give life to the person you are interrogating. There are some grammatical errors here and there, but otherwise it works very seamlessly and I found that to be engaging and impressive. The rest of the game, however, needs some amount of overhaul. The instructions are completely confusing. I won't get too much into the details, but unlike "Papers, Please," the rules are not consistent and are all over the place. It appears each religion has its own particular forbidden thing that you must seek out, but that doesn't make too much sense. Why would all religions have a different forbidden aspect, instead of just outright forbidding a single religion? After my first day, I got a 0/10 on every parameter for my interrogation. I have no earthly idea how to earn even a single point in these areas. If you don't get graded well after an interrogation, you get little or in my case zero XP. That means you get no money after your shift is done. Like "Papers, Please," you have a family with expenses, but this is clumsily implemented. I bought this game on release day and , to be honest, I was a little underwhelmed. Since then, there have been a few updates and bug fixes which renewed my interest in playing and I'm glad I went back to it. First of all, I love the retro art style. The catchy music is a jaunty contrast to the gloomy setting and subject matter. There's an element of realism when the officer ends his work day and sees his mediocre salary eaten up by bills with no hope of even buying a little treat for himself at the in game shop. A true Art imitating life moment in today's harsh economic climate. When reviewing each case, you can question the suspect, call up a lieutenant to conduct property searches, background checks and even arrange covert surveillance operations. You can also call up embassies representing four of the state provinces. The embassies are very helpful for verifying the authenticity of documents such as passports or birth certificates. The suspect will have a number of items on their person which you can inspect and you have the chance to "set aside" some of these to sell on later and boost that low income. The game´s concept is amazing. But I have 80 mins of playtime of just waiting for someone to show up. Is just the whole day (in the game) with the "someone is coming up, please wait". I havent judged 1 single person.

It just doesn't work

The game is truly amazing. The conversations with the AI ​​are incredible and make perfect sense. You can ask it anything you can think of and it will answer. The pixel art, the animations, the environment, and the overall atmosphere are all incredibly well-executed and well-crafted. Without a doubt, one of the best games!

I love the atmosphere, the setting, and the music of Obliska, It’s very catchy. If you truly enjoy role-playing, this immerses you in the moment and lets you reflect on your actions and the story. The detail of allowing you to ask the lieutenant for things, like going to the accused’s house, is brilliant; it gives you even more freedom to play and it’s impossible to break character. Personally, I love the sound of the keyboard; it makes it even more immersive🪖🫡
