About Mycopunk

✦ AI summary

Mycopunk is a roguelike tactical shooter where you command a squad of robot misfits to battle a planet-consuming fungal outbreak while uncovering corporate conspiracies. Customize absurd weapons through a grid-based upgrade system that lets you create anything from healing support builds to chainsaw-mounted shields, mixing and matching mods from each mission's loot to evolve your scrappy exterminators into ingenious (or hilariously broken) engines of destruction.

A ragtag squad of robot rejects is hired by the SAXON corporation and given one last shot at profitable glory (and avoiding the scrap heap). They are the New Atlas Hazard Crew, a ramshackle squad of exterminators sent to uncover the mysteries behind a planet-wide fungal catastrophe.

Embark on a series of dangerous planet-side missions to drive back the mycological menace. Could this be a simple natural disaster like they claim? And did SAXON really misfile your taxes? Or was that your own fault?

FUNGICIDAL TENDENCIES

Choose from an outrageous arsenal of advanced futuristic weaponry (and some power tools), then supercharge them in a one-of-a-kind grid-based upgrade system to create the ridiculous sci-fi super-weapon of your dreams.

BREAK THE MOLD

Slaughter hordes of enemies as they corrupt and weaponize the planet's technology against you. Pick crawlies apart piece by piece — but be wary, whatever they drop could be grabbed up by another enemy.

LOOT, SHOOT, REPEAT

Every mission grants new mods to jam into your upgrade grids. Mix em, match em, and stack em. Whatever upgrades you can fit in are fair game. Piece by piece, your scrappy robots and weapons mutate into finely-tuned death machines (or horrible mistakes of engineering, up to you). Spec into being a healing support, put a deflector shield on a chainsaw, or turn yourself into a bomb (we don't really care).

ROACH MOTEL

Let off steam between missions in an orbital dropship packed with toys and games. Hang out with your friends, uncover more about the galaxy, and shoot the breeze with the insectoid SAXON veteran Roachard Cox.

✦ AI summary

Mycopunk has a striking visual style and enjoyable moment-to-moment gameplay loop that works well solo or with friends, with guns that feel fun and viable through different builds. However, players are divided on the difficulty balance, with some finding the solo experience punishing due to high enemy accuracy, unavoidable projectiles, and bullet-spongy encounters that leave no breathing room, while others find the overall experience engaging and peak entertainment. The game appears worth trying, particularly with friends.

I Really wanted to enjoy this game, however its just impossible to enjoy Solo. Enemies are incredibly accurate even at long distance, some attacks can delete your entire health bar, and fighting abominations and larger enemies is incredibly sluggish. there are three different swarm modifiers, outside of the difficulty(1-7) with the hardest being described as the recommended experience but I cannot see how this is the case. There is literally ZERO downtime in between swarms on this mode which would be fine if there weren't additional mission objectives some which require standing still. Unless something is done to address crazy, near unavoidable projectiles and attacks and make enemies feel more engaging and less bullet spongey I cannot recommend.
