About TombStar

TombStar is a top-down Space Western shooter with roguelike elements that will test your mettle. Go head-to-head against the galaxy’s toughest creatures in heart-racing bullet-hell combat.

WE’VE GOT A PLANET TO SAVE, PARTNER

At the edges of the Frontier Galaxy, the notorious Grimheart Gang have driven away every peaceful settler and taken over the planet TombStar. Free the planet from the tyrannical grip of their leader, King Killcard… or die trying.

UNLOCK AN ARSENAL OF DYNAMIC WEAPONS

From splattering shotguns, to the powerful Armageddon Expander, or the festive Fireworks Cannon, there’s a whole lot of ways to serve justice to those wretched Grimhearts.

DISCOVER GAME-CHANGING PERKS

When the going gets tough, seek out the morally questionable Duon brothers to provide you intimidating perks. Upgrade these enhancements and soon you’ll have the Grimhearts shaking in their boots.

CHOOSE YOUR GUNSLINGER

Play as Jack Galloway and strive to become a galactic hero just like your father. Step into the shoes of Benson Gara, a Lyroid-species environmentalist taking matters into his own hands. Or live up to the legend that is AJ Starchild, a highly decorated sniper gone rogue to seek her revenge.

Discover each character’s unique abilities and play styles to find your strongest contender for defeating the Grimheart Gang.

PLAY AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN

Blaze your way through hordes of assorted space scum, from pistol-wielding cowpokes to robots with death lasers. But stay sharp, the game changes with each run so you never know what you’re gonna get.

MANY YARNS TO SPIN

Collect messages from the past to piece together what happened on TombStar, and learn each character’s motives for taking down the Grimhearts. Where is Jack’s father? Why did Benson Gara come here alone? And what unforgivable act lies at the heart of AJ’s story?

Thumbs up because I think it's a pretty decent game. That said, it doesn't do anything especially special. Not much here for seasoned twin-stick roguelike veterans except for a fresh coat of paint on a functional system. Pick it up on a good sale and play it for 5-10 hours or more depending on what you can get out of it. It's charming.

It's honest, super polished, and fun. Gameplay is pretty tight, responsive, fast and most importantly, very fun. The bullet hell is fair, and I've seen no issues with hit detections or visual clarity. This is the most important point and why I recommend it, everything else is secondary hehe. The animations are well-made, and graphically it's very competent. Enemies are varied enough and pretty balanced, you can evade their attacks but all of them offer threat, and if you sleep for a millisecond you get hit. The sniper character is way more powerful than the other two, simply because you can hit enemies off-screen with her standard weapon. Boss variety is very limited, you get 1 boss per map, but some are minibosses that repeat, so the game really has 4 unique bosses only. The meta-progression is poorly designed and takes too long to unlock, and the upgrades are "meh." You have 3 slots, but I only unlocked 2 and the game was already over so whatevs. Weapon and upgrade variety are really weak or take too long to be unlocked, some weapons/upgrades are borderline useless, while others are essential, even if these are in the same rarity rank. Although some are useless, the ones t…

Fun for several runs, but it gets stale and repetitive super quickly. There's way too little variety between the runs. Enemies don't drop anything worthwhile - just gold and extremely rarely a weapon or some upgrade cards for your passive skills (you only get one per stage and sometimes from bosses). Some achievements are insanely grindy or luck-based for no reason. On sale it's worth it. ~10h of gameplay until it gets boring.
