About Solar Wind
Solar Wind is a retro-styled side-scrolling shoot 'em up where you blast through 20 challenging stages of deep space, asteroid fields, and alien complexes while upgrading your ship with over 80 weapons and equipment. It captures the classic feel of '80s and '90s arcade shooters like Gradius and R-Type, packed with 90+ enemy types, epic boss battles, and an original astro-rock soundtrack.

JimJams games are a small, indie development team with a love for the retro games of the '80's and 90's. We only develop games that embrace that era, aiming to provide true classicly styled gaming, with a massive retro feel, maybe with a slight hint of what these games would have been with a little more processing power.
We don't aim to develop AAA games, but simply to bring our passion for a time gone by to those who love truly classic themed and inspired games. If this is a genre and era that you love, then our games are for you.

Solar Wind is our take on the classic sidescrolling shoot 'em ups of the past. Fight your way through deep space, penetrate asteriod belts, swoop low across alien moons, and weave through narrow caverns, and alien complexes as you take the fight to an unknown enemy.
Solar Wind encompasses many elements of the classic side scrolling, shoot 'em ups. Blast asteroids, take on alien ships, upgrade your ship with numerous add-ons, and navigate the unknown in the retro-themed blaster. We've taken our love of such games as Scramble, R-Type, Gradius, Vanguard, and a load more and combined our favourite features of each.... And we haven't stopped yet!
- 20 challenging, themed, retro blasting stages.
- A new big boss at the end of every stage.
- Over 90 different aliens, enemy weapons and defences..
- Destroy radar stations and ground bases to interrupt the alien responses.
- Fight challenging and varied mid-stage boss ships.
- Upgrade your ship with over 80 weapons, equipment, armour and add-ons.
, - Battle to the thundering, original, Astro rock soundtrack.

More Indie-Retro goodness from the Guys at Jim Jams. Fast paced, with just the right balance between level of difficulty and ease of play. Upgrades are plentyfull, but not so plantyfull to take away any challenge. Solar Wind is now my go-to quick gaming fix!7 found this helpful
Original Review: This game is a good attempt at a side-scrolling shmup... but unfortunatly for me, I can not reccomend this game at this time. My Gripes / Suggestions are:

Throwing you in at the start of the game with 0% shields gives you no time to get used to the pace of the game
Although you can customise the control method (its not clear on how to do this, I found it out by chance), the game doesn't remember your settings.
There is no difficulty modifier, this goes along the same lines as the 0% shield start, meaning that you have to keep playing and playing until you get the hang of it, I personally feel this will turn people away from the game, if they feel they aren't making any progress they won't continue playing.
Enemies seem to launch (right at the start) right when you are underneath them, making it almost impossible to dodge unless you have fast reflexes, which you won't at the start.
Enemy sprites are bigger than you - this makes it harder to dodge them, and the power ups are small, I thought they were just floating debris peices to start with. So it was just hard from the get go.
If the game started you off with a little b…6 found this helpful
very good challenging shoot em with a mix of lots of classics..Awesome Tribute to R-Type, Scramble, Gradius etc..if you love these type of side scrolling shoot em ups this is well worth a try & to buy :)3 found this helpful
This game is very clunky and difficult. There are very few configuration options - you can't even turn off the annoying music or turn the volume level down without doing this on your main volume control. I found it hard to differentiate what was the foreground and what was the background as there is so much going on. I kept crashing into things as a result. There does not seem to be any checkpoints in the levels, so if you die, you start back at the beginning which I found increasingly annoying. In the end I removed the game from my account as I am streamlining my collection.1 found this helpful
It reminded me instantly of my c64 time. Pure Arcade Fun! For now it is our lunchtime game in the company :D1 found this helpful
It's a very simple game but there is nothing wrong with that. The play style is addicting and has you wanting to retry over and over to advance to the next level. I have only two complaints, one is I couldn't figure out how to turn the music/sound down, and just about blew my eardrums off, and two the enemies and objectives aren't 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳 well explained so it's a lot of trial and error. Overall a solid game and I'm sure I will be back for more.
