Koga Michiru is a newly enrolled first-year student at a academy with a notably large clock tower located deep in the mountains. Unfortunately, on his first day of teachings, he gets caught up in some sudden trouble and accidentally breaks an expensive-looking statue.
In order to compensate for the broken statue, the principal orders him and the boy who caused the incident to work for the school’s “Bureau for the Investigation of Special Affairs.”
When they arrive at the Bureau’s headquarters, a room situated in the academy’s enormous underground library, a girl is waiting for them there with an apathetic look on her face.
The girl informs the confused pair of the situation: Magic exists in this academy.
When the clock tower chimes, the “Realm of Night” appears, and merges with the school building. The Bureau’s job is to take care of the supernatural problems that arise. And so, Koga struggles to protect the school from troublesome magical items known as “Mists”…

Game is pretty good for what I was able to play. But I cannot continue further on account of one scene that consistently causes a crash that prevents me from progressing further in the story. I've tried, reinstalling, verifying integrity of the game files, using the beta branch of the game and nothing works. If the technical issues are fixed I would love to revisit and finish the game and move on to the other entries in the series. So until these issues are fixed (if ever) don't bother buying this buggy mess.3 found this helpful
you might as well buy it somewhere else because its bugged and perma crashes
[Note: This is a review for the entire trilogy] A Clockwork Ley-Line is a good mystery-ish visual novel trilogy that revolves around a group of people solving odd magical incidents in a magical school. The game starts off slow and episodic during the first episode, then the story picks up later on from the second game onwards. Basically, expect some visual novel pacing in this game. The Good: [+] Most of the characters are distinct, likeable, not forgettable, and doesn't break character just to fit plot contrivances. This includes the protagonist (ain't no way). [+] Is a story that kept me on the edge of my seat and has a wholly satisfying ending with no glaring plot holes [+] I really like how none of the reveals and things happening in the story felt like they were pulled out of the author's ass -- They're surprising yet just made sense when you think about it from the things that happened in the story [+] The BGM is decent, quite atmospheric but not something too mindblowing The Bad: [-] The game employs a ladder structure for the routes, and they're basically short fanservice for you to see some (I presume non-canon) romance and h-scenes with the side characters. This is being written after only finishing this visual novel and not its two sequels. A Clockwork Ley-Line: The Borderline of Dusk suffers a bit from being the first chapter in a series of visual novels. They spend a good amount of time setting up an interesting world and characters, but there is very little payoff in this title. Music is good. Story is fine but a bit basic. Nothing too surprising happens. There are 6 decent ecchi scenes present. Really there's not a lot to write home about in this title as it is just a setup for what I'm hoping is more interesting sequels. Because of all that I'd recommend picking it up on sale if possible, unless you're really interested in the premise.
Wil suck you and make you keep on reading til the end, wising for more ! Lucky its got 2 sequals ;)
The game is visually pleasing, has good audio, and has decent writing. I'm not sure it was worth the $20 but it was fun!
