If there was to be a new King's Quest game, I would want it to be something like this. It really understands what made the old KQ games tick, and while it also inherits some of their issues, it learned its lessons and doesn't have any hard walking dead situations - only situations that prevent you from getting the best ending. I first played this many years ago, back in 2008, when it was a freeware game released on the AGS homepage. This is an enhanced edition that completely reworked all the graphics, added full voice acting, and additional content like a playable intro scene where the original only had a text scroll. The new graphics are gorgeous, classic 256 color pixel paintings just like you know from early 90s adventure games. It really is one of the best-looking adventure games of recent times. The scenes are colorful and detailed, with many animated elements like flowing rivers, fluttering flags, and plenty of animals moving across the screen in …6 found this helpful
The game has many redeeming qualities, but it replicates early adventure games in a bad way. The good: - Writing. It's exceptional. If you yearn for literature-grade texts of Legend and Sierra games, ATTK will definitely scratch your itch. - Graphics and voice acting. Top-notch. It's a true delight to admire the art. The bad: - Game design. You have to wander a huge world, constantly backtracking, dying and losing items. For me, it kills all the enjoyment. This is not a contemporary pleasing AGS adventure. It's a grind: long, tedious and often unpleasant work. Be ready for it.4 found this helpful
A Tale of Two Kingdoms is a deliberately old-school graphical adventure that embraces the traditions of classic point-and-click design while telling a broad, myth-laden fantasy story shaped by player choice. Developed and published by Crystal Shard, the game feels like a love letter to the era of Sierra-style adventures, complete with hand-drawn pixel art, a sprawling world to explore, and a narrative that unfolds through careful observation, conversation, and puzzle solving rather than spectacle. It is a game that asks for patience and curiosity, rewarding those qualities with a surprisingly deep and flexible journey. The story places you in the role of Maeldun Whiteblade, a veteran warrior caught in the political and mystical fallout of a failed peace between two neighboring kingdoms. After a royal assassination leaves tensions at a breaking point, Maeldun is framed for the crime and forced into exile, setting the stage for a far-reaching quest to clear his name and uncover a greater threat lurking beneath the surface of the conflict. What begins as a personal struggle gradually expands into a classic fantasy epic involving courtly intrigue, ancient magic, fairy folk, and loomin…
Excellent game feels line a throw back to sierra online game of 90s with difference. Music and atmosphere was also excellent loads of fun. Highly recommended.
Its really great
One of my favorite games growing up where I played alot of Point and Click Adventure games like this and the King's Quest games and the Fan-remakes by AGD Interactive(recommend those highly aswell) This one has a bit more serious plot than the King's Quest series this is inspired by and a very nice story inspired by celtic mythology, great soundtrack and get art. Definitely gonna need a guide but that's part of the fun lol(except when you mess up and missing like 1 or 2 points for max score) I personally prefer some of the location scenes from the original freeware version over this cause the original had bit more scale while this looks smaller BUT is much better detailed so and it's only like 3 locations that stand out to me in this regard anyway. STILL great game and great version(freeware also lacks voice acting) I can't recommend enough to get this game if you loved King's Quest. It definitely has a place in my heart always - check out Heroine's Quest by these devs aswell that is inspired by Nordic mythology and gameplay inspired by Quest of Glory with it's more RPG aspects:)
