Aeons of Rebirth, developed and published by Short Scale, is a compact incremental strategy experience that blends idle progression with stripped-down 4X-inspired systems. Rather than aiming for sprawling complexity or long-form empire building, it focuses on delivering a tightly scoped loop centered around growth, optimization, and repeated cycles of advancement. The result is a game that feels deliberate in its simplicity, offering just enough strategic depth to stay engaging without overwhelming the player. At its core, the gameplay revolves around managing resources across a collection of procedurally generated planets. Players gradually expand their reach by developing these worlds, establishing production chains, and unlocking technologies that improve efficiency. The structure is immediately familiar to fans of incremental games, with numbers steadily increasing and new upgrades unlocking over time. However, what gives the experience a bit more substance is how it incorporates light strategic decisions into this loop. Fun but late game is way slow
Good game. Love the storyline and the gameplay.
The active game is short and linear. Progress becomes exponentially longer in required time after the story finishes. The game performs like it is mining crypto in the background with all my fans running on max despite the simplicity of the graphics and the nature of the game. The last achievement is a ridiculous grind that involves waiting for longer and longer times and adds exactly zero joy to anyone's life. My playtime consists of maybe 2 hours for the story, and the rest was the last acheevo.
Minimal content, poor execution of the game mechanics. Multiple ways to software lock yourself and the dev's "fix" is for you to delete your progress. Brilliant. The difficulty scaling is screwed up too. The game progresses with an acceptable level of difficulty, and then when you go to finish off the last few achievements, the difficulty scaling goes vertical. I guess that's how he decided to extend play time instead of adding content. Give it a pass because the reviews are coming in, and they're mostly negative.
Defninitely needs a lag patch and some better balance and content in the endgame, but a good gameply loop for the few hours it lasts.
