Alpacalypse is a compact and lighthearted platformer that embraces its identity as a student-developed project, delivering a short but spirited experience built on simple mechanics and a playful premise. Created by a small team from Neumont College of Computer Science, the game doesn’t attempt to compete with larger, more polished platformers. Instead, it focuses on offering a cohesive, easy-to-digest adventure that highlights creativity, humor, and a solid grasp of core design fundamentals. The story sets the tone immediately with its absurd charm. You step into the hooves of Pancake the Llama, a farmer whose peaceful life is disrupted when his wife is abducted by an eccentric group of alpaca antagonists. The narrative doesn’t aim for depth or complexity; it functions more as a framework to carry the action forward. This simplicity works well within the game’s scope, allowing it to maintain a consistent, humorous tone without becoming bogged down in exposition. It feels intentionally exaggerated, leaning into its quirky concept rather than trying to justify it. Don't play that game, it's filled with bugs, it'll make you believe on the first world that's it's a lovely no brainer but then you get to world 2 and boom nothing works anymore.

Was kinda tense this evening...looking for something with a little action, but not too stressful...and this was the exact level of fun fluff I needed! The game is very easy, but very fun. You hop thru 10 levels of cute 3D environments, and 2D Paper Mario-esque character sprites, while beating up/spitting on the corpo alpaca douchebags that kidnapped your Llama wife! If you somehow manage to lose all your lives, you just go back to the map, so losing isn't really an issue....tho that does mean I didn't need to try and get every shield/coin/thing to hoard extra lives >.> There are some bugs admittedly, on one level there was a random green alpaca who was completely invincible for some reason, on another, one of the pink guys knocked me INTO a wall, and I had to restart the level. Some hit detection can also be a bit weird. But none of this is game breaking. I won in a little over 30 min, and then went back to get the last 2 achievements I needed. Alpacalypse is a decent 2D side-scroller platformer with a Paper Mario–like art style. The visuals are charming and the gameplay is solid, and I do find it fun. It doesn’t do anything particularly groundbreaking, but overall it’s an enjoyable little platformer if you like casual 2D side-scrollers.

Cute little game if you want to play something fairly short or hunt achievements. Unfortunately riddled with game breaking bugs, specifically when completing a level. Game got stuck after a loading screen/crashed several times for me and sometimes I completely lost my progress, other times it seems to have saved (luckily achievement progress stays even if you lose your progress, however you will need to beat level 5 again to progress further). Losing progress on coins was extremely frustrating and unrewarding at first however the amount of coins in a level ramps up in the last couple of levels so ultimately didn't waste too much time in unlocking the achievement. P.S. I played the last couple of levels with the game windowed instead of full screen and it seemed to be fine so maybe just avoid playing fullscreen. P.S.S. There's a softlock near the end of level 8 so watch out for that.

This is a solid, free platformer. The cardboard cutout art style is great! On a lazy day off alpaca bowl and play Alpacalypse! ;)
