Disclaimer: I was provided a copy for my unbiased review. Playing "An Occasional Dream" was like stepping back into time. It brought me back to my younger years of JRPGs, when the voice acting wasn't something that could make or break a game and you could just enjoy the story. This very much hit all the nostalgia buttons for me and I truly enjoyed playing this game. The story and the characters felt pretty fleshed out. I enjoyed the nod to the genre in the sense of the main character figuring out he is in an RPG by recognizing all the tropes (why are all the doors always unlocked and why does no one ever care when you bust in and take their stuff? I have been wondering this for AGES). I even liked the slight romantic element to the game, though I would have enjoyed maybe exploring that a little more. I won't get into the ending (though I did like it and thought it was a little bittersweet) but I really would have liked to have some time to really get into the dynamic of the relationship. The battle system was well done as well. It was easy enough to figure out and I liked the points to spend on abilities take for leveling. This is an ok game. Many RPG or RPG type games like this on the market, Simple yet boring combat. Ok story. But where this game will always be remembered is the artwork. Monsters, and detail of buildings and towns, Give it a go.4 found this helpful
This looks and plays almost exactly like the game "The Deal", which I also loved. I just started playing this game, but I can already tell you I am going to love it. More detailed graphics than the average JRPG (just like The Deal game), and good music, at least one song I recognize also from The Deal, I believe. The story, characters and fighting system seem to be good as well. I will update my review if necessary. I recommend this game to those who love JRPG/RPG maker games. After playing a few hours, my one gripe is the unbalance, having too many monster fights on the main world when walking. I am stuck in one place where it is an attacked castle. I have requested help where I cannot seem to get very far without my two characters dying. I have tried several times and have requested help on the forums without any success. I hope that changes.3 found this helpful
Great game but not a strategy guide at the moment .
I like the 'yo mama' joke btw...
