It is weird to me how could i have possibly missed reviewing this game. It is a 2007 thing all right when story driven metroidvanias where still shaping up and it's mechanics at the time were quite advanced. And i still from time to time think about this game a good decade and more after i 100% it. It had such an impact at the time and still has potential to touch hearts in a way one would not expect a game to do. Dont really know or even care what this in 2026 watched trough modern lenses looks like but for me this is the GOAT in it's own niche.3 found this helpful
I really respect the creative vision of this game, but I just don't find it very fun to play.2 found this helpful

This was one of the first games I remember spending time with my dad playing. It was fun, simple, and had a feeling to it I had never experienced with games before. I remember wanting to find every recipe, and to explore the whole map. It was my first experience with a metroidvania, and it's one that many years later I think back to fondly. It has its quirks, but to me it's a work of art that has shaped the way I look at games. The first encounter with the surface, the Veil, is a very evocative moment. Amongst the games of today, it feels like looking back on the animation of 90s 3d animated movies. Still, I've never forgotten this game. Please play it, and tell me what you think. If I were ever able to capture this feeling in a game again, I'd play it in a heartbeat.1 found this helpful
The first game I ever played on Steam when I was like 7. At that time I actually thought it was the only game on Steam...1 found this helpful
highly nostalgic for me the graphics are charming if simple and has a fun eldritch monster element to the bosses
