About Arcanima: Mist of Oblivion - Prologue

How would a world shaped by people's power of will look like?

Awake your anima in this single-player action-RPG that mixes fast-paced Hack N Slash combat with strategic JRPG elements. 'Focus' to weave the flow of combat, assault the flying Citadel of Indomita and help Juno find answers to clear the deadly Mist of Oblivion!

But beware, for there are ¨Battles of Wills¨ awaiting you; boss battles that you have only one chance to beat and that will define the outcome of the story.
Experience a unique character-building system based on psychological typology that allows you to shape and develop your anima through your actions and choices; evolve by assimilating other users’ natures and master the system that defines both the mechanics and characters of this game!
Combining fast paced Hack N Slash combat with turn-based JRPG strategy into a new mixed system, Arcanima’s gameplay feels unlike any other. Each combat is a puzzle in time waiting to be solved by your unique playstyle. Fight relentlessly or pick apart your enemies by parrying their attacks. Use well timed abilities like you would in an JRPG or combo your enemies with style like you do in a Hack N Slash. Own the combat, the choice is yours!
Dominate the flow of combat and unleash mighty abilities using the Focus Mode to momentarily slow time! Get info on your enemies, plan your next actions and manage your resources, but be careful! You can only spend a limited amount of time on Focus. Easy to use and difficult to master, this feature is a window into the nuanced anima system and how the strengths and weaknesses of different anima natures interact with each other.
Immerse yourself in a deep and extraordinary world that will reel you into its own pace. Conquer a flying citadel full of places waiting to be discovered, solve engaging puzzles and find valuable objects that will mark the difference between win and defeat, all within a beautifully crafted and stylized alternative fantasy environment!
Join Juno and find meaning on her journey to clear the Mist of Oblivion in a story that speaks about how this path is different for everyone, your-self included.

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the satisfying combat system with good movement and traversal mechanics, describing it as well-balanced and challenging. However, the game is hampered by significant technical issues including progression-blocking bugs, camera problems, performance optimization concerns, and graphical glitches like flickering shadows that undermine the visual design.

Awesome proof of concept, would love to see it fleshed out as a full game! Though please, fix the issue where all shadows have a striped, jagged, flickering effect to them. It hurts the otherwise wonderful art design.

I died 15 times until reaching the end and I couldn't beat the final boss the first time 🥲. I will definitely try again soon. Anyway 😅, I will say that I specifically looked for a game with this kind of combat system. It turned out to be even better and more satisfying than I could have ever expected. I liked the jumping, dashing and attacking enemies that blast you with projectiles and walk/fly away from you. I liked absolutely getting stomped by common enemies and the process of whittling away at their shield bars. Overall, never felt overpowered while playing this game. Well-balanced and challenging especially for people who don't play many action games and prefer to not break their controller in one sitting. If this gets a full-length continuation with a robust story and a handful of bosses, I would totally buy it no question. I want more😋 of this gameplay loop. Don't even need much better graphics than this. Really dig the simple yet stylish 3d art direction. Whoever did the 2d sprites also did fantastic. Played it on toaster settings and still loved the vibrant colors and stylized objects and environments. Also it seems that this game can run on even the more modest mach…

Not a bad game. Has some issues (the combat wasn't really doing it for me) but has some decent action sequences and cool looking characters.

At $7, this should be a good time, but since most Prologues are free and have less bugs and better execution, this game has no excuse. Arcanima, you cute, but you ain't THAT cute. Pros: Decent Combat Model. It's doing a Turn Based Meets Action RPG Combat. Good feeling movement with fun traversal. Good Controller Support. Somewhat intriguing premise. Not that original but it's serviceable. It does have voice acting which is a plus. Achievements are here. Cons: Really poor Settings/Customization Options Rough performance that you can't really adjust by the minutia that you'd like to. Voice Acting is here but not the best at times. Other times the sound mixing has you leaning in wondering what someone just said. Also lack of facial animations and mouth movements might be a bit irksome but its an indie project on the cheap so you might be more willing to overlook it. Camera actively hates you and wants you dead. If you dare lock onto an enemy and expect the camera to keep them onscreen, you poor deluded fool. You need to see inside the buildings and ground while the camera spins around and tries to make you throw up. This is very important to the lore. Yet your targeting…

It seems like it should be interesting, but it's constantly on the verge of falling apart. Constant bugs, camera freaks out every time you open the battle menu (which considering its a RTWP action game, is all the time), and softlocks when it hits the big dramatic new-power reveal.
