Players praise ARK & ADE as a stylish, high-energy VR shooter with satisfying arcade-inspired mechanics, neon TRON-like visuals, and frantic bullet-hell gameplay that encourages physical movement and has good replay value across difficulty levels. The main complaints center on the campaign's brevity (under an hour) and frustration with the teleporter mechanic, which some players find annoying and wish could be disabled or removed entirely.
A TRON-like Bullet-Hell VR Shooter That Is Extremely Fun!
If you're a fan of stylish, high-octane bullet-hell arcade VR shooters, ARK & ADE is a must-play. The game impressed me right from the start with its TRON-like visual style, delivering a neon-drenched aesthetic that is both modern and nostalgic. The way you get sucked into the arcade cabinet from the basement, was just super cool to see in VR. The vibrant colors and simplistic graphics perfectly complement the fast-paced arcade gameplay and looks very pleasing in VR. Shooting Mechanics & Enemies The arcade-style shooting mechanics are very satisfying in this game that give nods to various arcade games from the 80s and 90s. Weapons are given to you like Metal Slug, shoot the upgrade powerup in the air and you will receive the new weapon with limited ammo. Once the ammo is depleted, you get your main pistol blaster back. The difficulty is fair, striking a perfect balance between challenge and enjoyment. There are lots of enemies to shoot and enemy types have quite a lot of variance ranging from normal humanoid beings armed with laser pistols and shotguns to drones that shoot rockets at you. ARK and ADE is a high-energy virtual reality shooter that fully commits to the idea of blending classic arcade design with modern VR immersion. Developed by Castello Inc and published by Beyond Frames, the game is clearly inspired by the neon-soaked sci-fi aesthetics and relentless action of 1980s arcade cabinets, but it reinterprets those influences through physical movement, spatial awareness, and tactile gunplay. From the moment you step into its stylized digital world, the game makes its intentions clear: this is a fast, flashy, and unapologetically arcade-driven experience built around reflexes, spectacle, and replayability rather than narrative complexity. At its core, ARK and ADE is about constant motion and pressure. Enemies pour in from all directions, forcing players to stay alert and reactive while navigating compact arenas and corridors filled with incoming fire. Unlike traditional flat-screen shooters, the VR format adds a physical dimension to combat, where dodging, aiming, and repositioning feel directly connected to the player’s own movements. The game offers multiple locomotion options, including smooth movement, teleportation, and dash-style blinking, allowing pl…1 found this helpful
Actually fun, play on expert for best experience.
Get rid of the annoying teleporter, or at least include a way to disable it, and this becomes a thumbs up
Works on Reverb G2 with minor issue. Retro arcade VR shooter with minimalistic visuals and frantic gameplay. It's quite short, but every second is filled with non-stop action. Every shot is projectile based, both shooting and dodging feels satisfying. Strafing speed is slow enough to encourage real life side stepping to avoid damage from time to time. Enemies are surprisingly varied for such a small game, and there is a unique boss for every level, that will quickly turn the game into a bullet-hell. There is almost no down-time for action, feels like the game was initially designed as a on-rail shooter in the best way possible. The campaign can be beaten in less than an hour, but the game is good enough to stick around for replaying on higher difficulty and trying endless modes. Although, bosses become a bit too bullet-spongy on High for my taste. Stylized minimalistic visuals look timeless in VR and perform well. And some effects(like bullet collisions and transition between main menu and levels) are quite beautiful. Works on Reverb G2, but in-game hands are misaligned. Thankfully, it is barely noticeable when aiming with laser pointer
Ark&Ade is really fun and replayable. It is extremely immersive and memorable thanks to its bHaptics support.
