About Ascension to the Throne

✦ AI summary

Lead your hero through a vast fantasy world in this turn-based strategy RPG where you recruit allies, command massive tactical battles with up to 22 squads, and forge your own path to reclaim the throne. What sets it apart is that you fight alongside your troops in real-time rather than commanding from afar, with the risk of losing your hero adding genuine stakes to every engagement.

Ascension to the Throne is a turn-based strategy game with RPG elements. In a vast fantasy world the hero will have to pass many tests on his way to victory. Enemies seek to stop players from regaining power and taking revenge. Gain new friends to aid you in reclaiming the throne. Become the King you were born to be - wise, brave and courageous.

Players will act as the last offspring of the ancient family Illiar, which has ruled Eden for ages. But times have changed and traitorous enemies attacked the castle. They slaughtered the prince's family and destroyed the settlement, but they didn't crush his will. A very powerful spell cast by a magician threw the hero far beyond the borders of the country. He was on his own - without relatives, friends, army and without money. He lost everything he was proud of but still he was alive and chose the path of vengeance.

Players will explore a new fascinating world, full of foes and friends. They will have to crush hordes of enemies and find new followers to regain the title and ascend to the throne.

Key features:

  • Open ended non-linear gameplay
  • Combination of real-time movement around the game world and turn-based battles
  • Large-scale tactical battles. Up to 22 squads (up to 16 units in each)
  • Players are not bounded by separate missions. They can go to any part of the game world and explore it. The game world is integral and players are free to choose any direction
  • Original concept. The Hero is the player, and instead of giving orders and watching the battles from a safe place, he participates in them by himself. But remember, that you can easily loose your Hero in the heat of a battle

A pretty neat and fairly short game. Story is fine, however main character's role in combat is a bit annoying, since if you are killed, fight is instantly over, which makes sense, but sometimes enemies just kill me in one go, which forces me to level up health. And well, upgrading Alexander as a melee fighter is waste of time, since magik is always superior. I wish there was a way to attach units to heroes like Alexander, Raphael and Eneya, because quite often they just take up space, but don't offer enough combat power to justify their stay in the army. I didn't try to exclude them tho, because well, combat never was all that hard after early game. Another point I didn't like is that I was not able to improve main character's speed stat besides equipping an entire set of armor that I got in the last hour of the game. Still, I found the game enjoyable, so I do recommend this game.

Наконец-то нашел игру детства, где я помнил лишь сражение с магом, который за три раунда выносил меня и мне приходилось придумывать тактики. Но теперь повзрослев смог одолеть достаточно быстро. Игра простая и приятная, жалко что нету продолжения

Maybe a mild recommendation. The game is rather dated and somewhat budget in feel after all. Ascension to the Throne is an old King's Bounty-like, game focused on tactical combat with (assumingly) limited resources and money to hire troops and buy equipment, as opposed to being limited by turns and economy in something like Heroes of Might and Magic. Unfortunately, as far as King's Bounty-likes go - something like a fairly old but still solid remake/reimagining King's Bounty: The Legend (and its follow up Armored Princess) are substantially better games to buy and play. They have more content with better pacing, better graphics and writing, more engaging and deeper combat. So on so forth. Ascension to the Throne on the other hand is a somewhat more limited game. Story and writing are there and not bad, but neither particularly in-depth. The unit variety is there but limited, same with gear options for main character. There are some more unique elements to the game. For example, unit count is represented on the battlefield as real models, rather than arbitrary number that multiplies damage dealt. Weirdly, there are no counterattacks when hitting enemies in melee. And main …
