Awesome Pea 3

I don't remember much about the first games of the series since i didn't have the good habit of writing review. However i know that this game definitively isn't to my taste and my playtime is half the one from the previous game. So it's really short, the wall climb is kind of janky and not explained the difficulty curve is all over the place, i probably wouldn't recommend it unless it was 1$ and you're a die hard fan of platformer.

Awesome Pea 3, created and released by PigeonDev, debuted in December 2023. It is a fast-paced precision platformer that requires players to run and jump through a variety of challenging levels. -Atmosphere: The visuals and audio are polished with the full-color pixel art represents a significant enhancement, improving visual clarity, and the game includes a value pack of 69 levels. However, the core design is quite basic and does not offer much innovation beyond its polished presentation. -Gameplay: The difficulty curve is reasonable, providing rewards for players who perfect their jumps and dashes. There is no tutorial or instructions, which may lead to difficulties for players trying to grasp mechanics such as mid-air dashes, as there is no in-game assistance. The controls can be twitchy when using a gamepad, and wall-climbing along with precision jumps may feel inconsistent, particularly with analog sticks, although the D-Pad offers some improvement. A fun "die until you win" platformer that only has two or three difficult parts. I breezed through this game with little resistance. I like the graphical style and the music is acceptable. You are just grabbing a key and jumping into a portal, but you get an achievement for collecting all the coins on each stage. Most of them are right out in the open so it's almost impossible to miss. Later on the game starts putting feathers on the stage. This gives you an extra jump or slide in midair and adds a bit of a challenge, but if you figured out the combination and timing it still won't slow you down much. It's playable but also totally forgettable.

AP3 changes things considerably compared to the previous games. The game boy black & white style is replaced with colours and lots of cool effects such as rain. The gameplay focus changed from long traditional levels to one room levels filled with traps. I don’t mind these changes as long as they’re done right, the graphics are fine and even better depending on who you ask. The gameplay is a problem though, the controls are important for platformers and even more so for precision platformers. They’re unreliable and unintuitive, especially with wall climb. The game is also buggy, I’ve had black screens too many times where I had to alt F4 and one time the game changed to wide screen even though I don’t have one. On a whole, I still enjoyed completing all the 69 levels because of how well designed they are. I’m fine with the game being small and not the prettiest. This is reflected in the price after all. But I can’t overlook the controls and the bugs. I can’t recommend the game when there are better options out there. Only consider it on sale and out of curiosity. It took me 2.3 hours to complete the game and get all the achievements.

Extremely janky controls. You will be fighting against the wall sticking/crawling mechanics in certain levels. The level design, itself, is fair. However it all devolves because of the controls. But I also encountered a bunch of levels where the controls are working against you; the character will refuse to move at the same point, or will refuse to stick and crawl up the wall. Simply infuriating.

The pea is awesome. What more can be said.
