For context, I have over 5k hours in VR, I have perma-deathed VR games, and have developed a palette over 3 years for the best of the best types of experimental or early access VR games. I have made many video reviews on VR games and have participated in tons of Alpha/Beta testing for well known VR gaming companies. I also have a few hours in development of VR games in Unity and Unreal. I really wanted to like this if it worked, but it is an actual dumpster fire of a game. The dev that made it should seriously feel ashamed that they managed to squeeze 2 of these games onto the Steam store. I do not care if it is in "Early Access" this is unplayable to the highest degree. No quest 2 support for controls so it's constantly just a mess to figure out what to press and by then you have already killed yourself. Constant, constant drunk camera shaking inside the Quest 2 that isn't shown on the screen, even on the lowest possible settings. It makes everything so unplayable to the point of making people sick. B.o.W II VR is an Early Access paid VR game that is a ocean diving simulator. It worked on my Index system with RTX 2070 super, looked ok, sounded ok, played ok. The store page said the minimum required GPU is a RTX 2070. By default the setting are too high for my computer, i was getting serious motion lag when moving my head around. Found the graphics setting, lowered all the graphics to low, it improved but decrease the look too. Has 16 steam achievements. - Update 10 July 2024 built a new gaming computer with RTX 4070 TI Super and Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Looks very much better at default. Maybe buy this, if you like skin diving or scuba diving. Might need a cutting edge computer to run this at a good resolution. I got a free key for this from the Steam Curator program. This is actually one of the better underwater experiences in VR ... if you can overlook the negatives. The graphics look good. The premise is exciting. This game has loads of potential. Of course, we've heard all that before in VR. The problem is the execution. The game is still janky even after a year in early access and several small updates. The developer mentions development being paused until funding arrives (that may never happen). While the game does look good, performance is not the best. On my RTX 3080, I was getting variable frame rates from 45-90. I did have DLSS on fastest and anti-aliasing in low. I didn't want to lower textures further though or shadows because I wanted the game to look as good as possible. The gameplay is unintuitive. I had to ask the dev on the steam forums on how to get to the lionfish in the first level. The game includes the first BOW 1 (VR) as part of the prelude, but this game itself apparently only has 3 levels (cull lionfish, underwater cave, and bluehole). So the content is rather limited. A very interesting concept that makes for a very good fit as a VR title. Packing your breath before diving underwater and donning your goggles and wetsuit makes for a very immersive experience. Unfortunately, this is all heavily marred by the poor design of VR mechanics, slog-like game/level design, and uncharacteristically bad performance. - Your arms/hands do not move the same distance as your motion controllers. They have an amplified motion, seemingly to help with your ability to reach things? But it ends up feeling buggy and immersion breaking - You have smooth turn, but cannot change the speed at which you turn. There is snap turn option, though I never tried it. - The performance, even at minimum settings, is nowhere near what it should be for this level of quality. There are some obligatory optimizations that have not been performed - Having to navigate menus via physical touch instead of a ray compounding with the hand distance issue mentioned prior makes menu navigation a total pain - Doors/hatches do not open as you'd expect.
