Beyond The Edge Of Owlsgard

This game is awesome. Games basically always get ignored unless they have some crazy new unique idea, but this is just, like, a really fun adventure game! It has some interesting, like, themes in it. It has fun characters. It has a shocking amount of fully voiced dialogue for nonsensical SCUMM interactions. What's not to love, especially when it's often on sale for 90% off?

A rather fantastic entry in the well-trod Lucas-esque adventure game genre. Looks wonderful, sounds great, for the most part the puzzles are solid and the writing is perfectly cromulent. Substantial enough to entertain without outstaying its welcome and no sequel bait (not that I would say no to one!), and I enjoyed Finn as the 'hero'. I didn't dislike anyone else, though I could say I didn't get a lot of chance to know them as there's not a lot of character development. Amd a bonus point to the animators, who nailed just about everything and gave characters and environments a load of personality just by existing. (Particular kudos to Gwen's "Finn just got killed again" animation, which is adorable as heck and seems to be a nod back to MI2 and Wally's "cowering in fear" animation.) If I had any particular points that I didn't enjoy it was a small number of difficult to find items, and in particular the awkwardness of the English script (the only language I speak, so the only one I played). It's most definitely far from "Engrish" and is perfectly comprehensible, but at times some of the phrasing is overcomplicated or a bit archaic; lines like "Nothing interesting to be seen t…

If you are a fan of old school point and click games during the Lucasarts Heyday you absolutely must play this. It looks old but is modern. Voice acting is great, writing is smart & funny and will make you feel young again if you grew up adoring these games (kings quest, space quest etc)

This a very good point and click adventure game. I really liked the pixel art, the puzzles and the story. I would definitely recommend it!

A fantastic nostalgic style point and click! Sometimes the puzzles can be a little counter intuitive or contain leaps in logic, but they're all mostly fair. It does reward you greatly and makes you feel smart for finding each solution. The voice cast is great, the setting is wonderful, the twist in the setting is somewhat predictable but still threw me for a loop. It does feel a little too short for how it's set up and the ending is REALLY rushed. A solid B-

I feel harsh doing this but i'm going to leave a negative review because I feel that giving it a positive one whilst acknowledging its problems is likely to become lost in the shuffle and I really want people to take notice of this. This. Is. A. Good. Game. ... Mostly. Graphics are Solid, Voice Acting is Solid. Mechanics are Solid. Puzzles are reasonably difficult without being stupidly difficult in places. So... what's the problem? Tone. Tone is the Problem. This game was intended to be silly and stupid like the Point 'n' Click Adventure Titles we all know and love, but as it tries to drive itself forward in the story it loses that tone and tries to become very serious and that tonal shift is out of left field, and unwelcome. Also: The Ending. I'm not the sort of person who's going to sit here and spoil an ending because at that point i'm putting people off pushing through to the end of a title and I hate that, but for me? That was awful. It was essentially "HERE'S SOME EXPOSITION!" what the heck happened? Did the dev get caught short on time? It was horribly rushed.
