About BlackShadows

When I wake up, a dark and eerie shape towers over me...standing still... and it moans, “Black Shadows are watching you”, before suddenly evaporating into nothingness...
BlackShadows is a survival horror game. You'll assume the role of a young scientist who is fighting against her most terrifying nightmare. Explore creepy rooms, keep your cool in the strangest of atmospheres, and make sure to find all the keys if you want to escape before it's too late! Are you brave enough to venture further? This is your one warning: Stay away from Black Shadows...

"Super game! I love the atmosphere! First game I’ve rated a 5. Great Job 😀"

"Awesome game! the atmosphere is really amazing! 😀 5/5 Great job!"

"This is a pretty fun horror game. Batteries are key because if you run out of light you are totally boned! It adds to the tension that the flashlight dies so fast. You just have to run headlong into each and every terrifying hallway because hesitation means less flashlight power. It's well worth the $3"

BlackShadows is widely criticized as a low-effort asset flip with minimal gameplay depth, consisting mainly of slow walking through repetitive concrete corridors with poor lighting and indistinct interactive items. Players cite numerous technical and design failures including the lack of a main menu, broken UI (pressing ESC closes the game), no graphics options, and a frustratingly weak flashlight mechanic that drains battery even when not in use. The short 10-15 minute experience offers little in terms of story development, atmosphere, or scares, with reviewers finding it a disappointing and
BlackShadows, developed and published by IceGames Studios, is a compact survival horror title that leans heavily on atmosphere and vulnerability rather than mechanical depth. It places players in the role of a scientist trapped within a dark, unfamiliar environment, with only limited tools and fragmentary context to guide them. The premise is simple and intentionally vague, setting the stage for a short experience focused more on tension and mood than on narrative or gameplay complexity. The core loop revolves around exploration and survival under constrained conditions. Players move through dimly lit corridors, searching for keys and essential items needed to progress while avoiding an unseen threat that lurks in the darkness. The flashlight becomes the most important tool at your disposal, not only illuminating the path forward but also acting as a limited resource that must be carefully managed. This creates a constant sense of pressure, as every moment spent exploring drains your ability to safely navigate the environment. The fear does not come from direct confrontation, but from the awareness that losing your light leaves you exposed. Gameplay is intentionally straightforwa…1 found this helpful
BlackShadows has little to contribute to the horror genre as an indie. Its hard to find anything to showcase that it has any promise. Here are my thoughts on my playthrough of the game. So the first part is the explanation of the story which is unfulfilling as upon starting the game you are greeted with a black screen and listening to a women explaining the premise of the game. I think that the game would have done itself better justice of continuing a storyline if there had been notes to find to further expand but I find that this game did itself the bare minimum. Secondly, the environment is repetitive, providing you with a flashlight that has little to no battery life, trying to pull on the Outlast vibe but fails at this since its battery will still drain even when you don't have it on. The minute that the flashlight runs out of battery it is a game-over to try and give you tension but comes off more as irritating. The horror factor comes in only a subpar jumpscare and a women screaming in the background so can't say it has any creep factor to it. And lastly, the pricing of this game I find to be absurd for what is presented to you. At this current time it is priced at £1.99 …1 found this helpful
You know you have a real gem on your hands when the title of the game program is Unreal Development Kit. This asset flipped trash is little more than a walking simulator masquerading as a horror game. There are a total of two "jump scares" in this miserably dull experience. That's surprisingly few for another click-bait slender clone attempting to capitalize off trend chasing content creators with a webcam and microphone to scream into. Maybe using Youtuber reactions as your game trailer on Steam is a little too on the nose, huh? The environments are ugly with the same few assets lazily strewn about a maze of concrete hallways. Interactive items like keys and batteries barely stand out due to the poor lighting and texture quality. There is no startup screen and thus no options to adjust such as sound or resolution. Game mechanics are entirely broken and unpolished. Attempting to skip over the cringe-inducing voice acting in the beginning usually crashes the game. The flashlight's batteries will continue to drain even when turned off. The only positive about this embarrassing mess is the short play time of 12-20 minutes. Definitely do not recommend.1 found this helpful
Even the lowest of low effort games usually have a main menu... however this sad excuse for a game opens up with a voiceover drowned out by piano music, then throws you right into its "gameplay". You slowly walk around corridors that all look the same, collecting a couple keys and opening doors. There's no option for fullscreen, however alt+enter does work and stretches the game to your monitor size. If you press ESC expecting an options menu, you're in for the game's best jump scare - it just closes immediately. The whole thing lasts about 10-15 minutes and absolutely nothing noteworthy happens during that time. I've played a lot of low budget/effort horror games and this just may be the most depressingly crappy one. It should not be sold for money, let alone have ever seen the light of day.
