Straightforward allegory on being trans (FtM). Some parts hit home, but unfortunately the gameplay killed a lot of my enjoyment with its tedious exploration and unclear dialogue triggers. While I understand the purpose of the mixed controls and them changing every chapter, the game overstayed its welcome halfway through due to the long navigation sections. This is especially bad in the later half of the game [spoiler]where you have to look for the purple area[/spoiler]. A lot of the gameplay is just running around and not talking. Great from a narrative standpoint but horrible for a game. The dialogue pacing is also predetermined and was infuriating to wait on, and there are no clear indicators for where/when dialogue can be triggered. This was probably why I stopped 8 minutes into the game the first time I played. As for the story, I can see where certain things are being paralleled, but others felt "off" in a way. It's very on the nose about being pink/blue and being taught certain things but also being the same, but at the same time, the purpose of the mines didn't quite land. blue. is a small experimental indie game that combines visual-novel storytelling, puzzles, exploration, and changing gameplay mechanics within a colorful world populated by geometric beings. Developed and published by Lucian Hardner, the game follows Violet, a young Cubie approaching the point in life when she is expected to become a fully grown Cube. What initially appears to be a simple journey toward adulthood gradually becomes a story about uncertainty, expectations, relationships, and learning how to make decisions without always knowing where they will lead. The setting gives the game much of its personality. Violet belongs to a society of Cubies and Cubes living within an underground environment filled with bright pink, blue, and other colorful spaces. Her journey begins in the Commons, where young Cubies live under the supervision of a Matron, but eventually expands into locations such as the Market and Centre. These environments are relatively abstract compared with the detailed worlds of larger adventure games, yet their simplicity fits the unusual geometric inhabitants.
