Boxel 3D

Boxel 3D is one of those games that looks incredibly simple at first, but I found myself getting more invested in the speedrunning side of it than I expected. The idea is basically to get through obstacle filled levels as quickly as possible, but the layouts can be surprisingly demanding once the game starts testing my timing. It has a very clean and colourful style that makes everything easy to understand, and I liked how quickly I could jump into a level without having to learn a bunch of complicated systems. The main thing I enjoyed is how much the game focuses on movement and timing. A lot of the challenge comes from learning the layout, getting my jumps right and then trying to improve my time on another attempt. When I made a mistake, I usually knew that it was because I mistimed something rather than because the game was being unclear. There is also an input buffer that helps register actions just before they are possible, which makes the controls feel a bit more forgiving without taking away the challenge.
