I rate Bullet Beat: Musical Shoot'em up 2.5/5. This extremely short, simple, vertical scrolling “bullet-hell” game is a good idea done badly. The manner in which enemies appear and behave is partially controlled by the beat and intensity of whatever song is playing during each level, which is a good idea (one which has been done before, as in the Beat Hazard games for example). Unfortunately, Bullet Beat takes that same cool, seemingly simple idea and then does very little with it. As it currently exists, Bullet Beat is a missed opportunity. + Bullet Beat has some mild replay value if you want to play the game using different song files of your own. There are also 3 difficulty levels. +/- The mouse controls are sharp and respond instantly. The keyboard controls (which do not need to be used) are floaty, imprecise and slow to react however. +/- The simple, modern-art, abstract style seems vaguely interesting at first but gets boring fast. The graphics can also be extremely distracting and visually irritating at times (like during the entire first level). +/- The game’s default music is entirely dub-step techno. If you like that style of music, you’ll be vastly more likely to li…

Uploading your own music files is really impressive. The game is so much fun for its price. The level design is fantastic and the gameplay, although simple, is captivating. I just wish it was longer! Bulet Beat has a unique concept of combining bullet hell gameplay with music and beat mechanics. It's a cool little game that has its moments, and considering the price, it's not bad at all. The soundtrack, especially the dubstep ost, is pretty decent. I particularly enjoyed the music in Stage 6, where everything is dark and you have to navigate with limited visibility. The mouse controls also felt really smooth.

The game play itself is about 5/10 but once you start to choose your audio files its so much better. Just use a youtube to mp3 and any audio file can be played. I wish other assets could be changed just as easily though, maybe something like a workshop page?

Short and fun title that takes about 30 minutes or so to finish. There's an endless mode if you want. The whole "in tune with the music," doesn't really feel like it pans out though, so if that's the major thing pulling you in I think you should know it feels like little more than enemies pulsating. The game is fun though. The last level of the campaign is incredibly awful as it's just unclear how you're supposed to beat it leading to frustration. Have the rockets hit the turrets, blow up the squares. Huzzah, you've won.

Great level design and basic yet engaging gameplay, wish this was longer
