Bury Me, My Love

As much as I'd like to see more games tell important stories like this that need to be shared, this one could have been done a lot better. The trailer is very misleading, there is no "gameplay", it's literally just text messaging between Nour and Majd, 95% of the dialogue is scripted and there's only occasional bifurcations thrown in. The story itself is pretty lacklustre, read an actual book by a refugee and you'll get a much better account of what a perilous journey really feels like, this doesn't even scrape the surface. Sorry but this is a no from me, I'm going to go read another book, or maybe I'll dig up the real story about Dana and read that instead.

There needs to be more games like this. Documenting experiences that are not talked about enough. Injustices. I appreciate the time and energy put into this game. I like the art and the way the game play unravels. I learned a lot about experiences I have not heard about before. I hope to find more games like this that bring awareness to a deep, deep need in humanity.

Bury Me, My Love is a narrative-driven interactive story developed by The Pixel Hunt in collaboration with ARTE France and FIGS, and published by PID Games. Instead of focusing on traditional gameplay mechanics, the experience unfolds almost entirely through a messaging interface that simulates a smartphone conversation. Through this simple but powerful format, the game tells a moving story about survival, love, and the uncertainty of leaving home in search of safety. The narrative centers on Nour, a young Syrian woman who decides to flee her war-torn homeland and attempt the long, dangerous journey to Europe. Players take on the role of Majd, Nour’s husband, who remains behind in Syria while communicating with her through text messages as she travels across borders, refugee camps, and unfamiliar cities. The title itself comes from a common Arabic expression—something akin to “take care” or “don’t die before me”—which reflects the emotional weight of the couple’s separation. Loved the writing in this game. So many moments where you worry about Nour and celebrate wins with her. Moments where you get angry at her recklessness and laugh along with her in silly moments. The writers did a fantastic job at humanizing all the characters Nour encounters, and it was truly wonderful to see the many wins and big as well as small setbacks in her journey. The game also has high replay value as you can take many different ways and achieve different endings. I personally will probably not replay a different route as the one I played made it feel very realistic, and it would just feel strange to change her fate. I think the game also did a great job at showcasing how difficult those journeys actually are. I highly recommend :)

I'm sorry but this is just so not for me, i couldn't last any longer on this, is it just text on a screen?! i get its a story but i guess it really could not grab me as i found unbearable trying to get through even a few minutes.
