What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise Cardinal Cross as a well-written sci-fi visual novel with engaging world-building, attractive artwork, and a meaningful choice system that genuinely affects the story's multiple endings. However, several reviewers note the game relies on familiar sci-fi tropes and has minor issues that prevent it from being truly outstanding, though most still recommend it as a solid, reasonably short experience for VN fans.
For generations, humanity amongst the stars has been ruled by one machine that predicts the entire life, actions, and crimes of a person before they are even born. Apheta, an overwhelming, omnipotent AI overseen and kept by the wealthiest and most powerful among the Morai planet and government, has only one weakness. Howler Artifacts; priceless relics of a bygone age made of extinct materials that are so unpredictable they cause a glitch in Apheta’s systems, and one is in the unknowing hands of Lana Brice, a scavenger and procurer of valuable ancient items through not-always-legitimate-sources. Born on Peon-5, Lana’s latest haul from a toxic swamp has drawn a noticeable amount of interest from an anonymous client and gets her wrapped up in more red tape, political plots, and rebel dreams than a small-planet girl could ever wish for. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3221746591 9-18 hours to complete, Cardinal Cross is an LGBTQ+ space-themed sci-fi fantasy VN with multiple endings and three personality choices for Lana as you play. 3 romance routes, over 70 CGs, and no voice acting. Such an amazing Sci-Fi VN! The world and characters were so well written and the wonderful CG's, and other backgrounds, were nice to look at! Also how can you not like it with an exceptionally helpful, and adorable, auxibot like Kitt in it!2 found this helpful
CARDINAL CROSS 2 WAITING ROOM
Cardinal Cross is a science fiction Visual Novel with romance elements. It may not be something super unique and is filled with all the sci-fi tropes that you can think of, but I still found it enjoyable. Giving the player the ability to shape the future of the galaxy is always fun if done right. I think that Cardinal Cross was able to (mostly) deliver on that front. It took me 7 hours to beat the game and see two different endings. You can probably add ~3 hours if you want to see everything. I think that many players exaggerated with their praise in reviews. Cardinal Cross IS a GOOD game, but it has too many small "problems" to make it truly GREAT. Still, thumbs up from me. I hope that we will see Cardinal Cross 2 some day, with all the improvements. World and Characters Like I said earlier, it's not the most unique sci-fi world out there, but it has some interesting elements that are a big part of the story. Using common tropes is not a bad thing if you can make it believable or at least entertaining. In my opinion, it's not a big problem - the world served its purpose as a "base" for the story rather well. The characters are harder…2 found this helpful
Absolutely amazing! I never knew how many possible endings there were to this game. On my first playthrough I somehow managed to get the worst ending, so trying to get the other endings is so entertaining.
I went in with eyes open, unsure of what it contained. The write up made it seem "out there". So far it aint bad,, they male's have tried to hit on me but I put them down. I feel, being near half way through, the female one will come along soon. I do like my character as she can dish it out when she needs to and ♥♥♥♥♥ on those who deserve it. I do recommend it so far..
A quite good visual novel, with an interesting story and a good choice system. It's not the best on the market, and considering the sheer number of VNs out there it's probably not your first pick, but if you're looking for something decent, short and out there, you'll want to try this one out.
