Uninspiring. Not entirely terrible but ugly, clunky, cheesy, simple and repetitive. Devoid of any satisfying sense of history or the planes and pilots that flew it.1 found this helpful
Combat Wings is a World War II–themed aerial combat game developed and published by City Interactive S.A. that aims to deliver the thrill of classic dogfights through an accessible, action-focused design. Rather than positioning itself as a hardcore flight simulator, the game embraces a more arcade-oriented philosophy, prioritizing immediacy and spectacle over exhaustive realism. This approach makes Combat Wings easy to pick up and play, especially for players who are curious about historical air combat but hesitant to engage with the steep learning curves often associated with full-scale flight sims. From the outset, the game places you in the role of a World War II pilot participating in key Allied air operations, with missions inspired by major historical events such as the Battle of Britain and the conflict in the Pacific theater. The narrative framework is minimal, functioning primarily as context for the missions rather than a deeply developed story. Briefings outline objectives and locations, giving players a sense of historical grounding without interrupting the flow of gameplay. This keeps the focus firmly on flying and combat, allowing missions to move quickly from setup…1 found this helpful
Combat Wings is a pretty old game but I actually had a lot of fun playing it. Even for its age the game runs really smooth and I didn't have any problems with crashes or anything like that. The game is basically about WW2 and you play as an American pilot fighting against the Japanese forces around the Battle of Midway. You fly different planes, fight other pilots, attack ships and do different objectives. It's nothing super complicated but that's what I liked about it. There are 21 missions in total and honestly the missions are really nice and feel pretty vast. I was expecting them to get repetitive after some time but they actually have some good variety and I enjoyed going through them. Some missions are more focused on fighting planes while others have you attacking ground or naval targets. Obviously the graphics are old and the game shows its age, but personally I don't really care about that. I like playing older games and sometimes they are just more fun than newer games trying to be too complicated. Overall Combat Wings was a nice surprise for me. Simple, runs smooth and the missions are actually fun. If you like old WW2 games and planes I think it's worth play…
Another ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Interactive (City Interactive) masterpiece. Controls are awful, missions are repetitive, unimaginative and dull as dishwater. Buuuut, you must play it, it's the law.
It's my childhood man!!
