About CORPUS EDAX

CORPUS EDAX is an immersive first-person-melee RPG, set in a distant retro-futuristic city on the brink of a revolution and on a planet that hides its own secrets. Fight with your body, improvised weapons and ingenuity.

  • A Skills and A.G.N.I.S. (Allure, Grit, Nerd, Intuition, Strength) system. Place objects in the world to reach places or climb over fences, creating your own path. Locked door? Hack it. Or lockpick it. Destroy it. Or alternatively, seduce or convince a guard to open it for you
  • Dialogue system that uses the stats of your character for special dialogue choices. Delve deep into branching dialogues or just skip it all, your choice.
  • Physically-based characters so you can throw pipes at the legs, arms or head and they will react as they should. Pick up a chair, throw it, swing it or kick it onto someone.
  • Personal reputation in the form of 3 traits - Insightful, Impetuous and Altruistic. Dialogues your actions in world will contribute to one of these 3 traits, unlocking new dialogue choices and reactions.

Up to you how you want to play:

  • Go as a stealthy ninja who allocates all their Skill Points into Stealth and Athletics to move faster, quieter and unlock different moves.
  • Or maybe you'd rather put all your points into Grit and Combat, and become a unstoppable beat'em up machine?
  • If combat isn't your specialty, try putting more points into Allure and Intuition and scheme your way past confrontation.

Almost a century ago, Humanity left Earth for a new planet due to catastrophic events rendering it unlivable to humans. A previously unknown planet was found accidentally as it put itself in collision course with the Earth's ships. With nowhere to go, we settled here.

A new city was built on this planet that was named shortly-after, "CORPUS EDAX". New rules and laws were created. Over the years its newly formed World Government struggled to lead a unified planet - any form of cultural identity expression from former countries was prohibited and made illegal. Citizens are graded from A to D based on their aptitude and contribution towards the government.

After waking up from a medically-induced coma, you find yourself inside a newly built echeloned City. In one way or another, you'll get entangled in the fight for justice with The Salvation, as they see it, or in a fight for you own rule. Help shape the future of Corpus Edax, for a better tomorrow for your fellow citizens (or not, your choice).

✦ AI summary

Players praise the engaging combat system built around physics-based interactions with objects and corpses, plus the game's technical optimization and fun chaotic gameplay that shines once you understand its mechanics. However, common complaints include significant jankiness and balance issues where exploits and thrown objects trivialize difficulty, a generic and bland story with minimal character development, and the misleading "life-sim" marketing when the game is primarily a combat-focused immersive sim with surface-level depth.

It felt like indie Dishonored, I like it.

It's hard to explain how I feel about this game exactly. In three words, I love it but it's a bit more complex than that. The style and graphics of the game can only be described as "rustic". It's rustic cyberpunk. The glow is there, the brutal industrialism is there, but it's very simple to the point where it's just enough. I suspect it'll be a love-and-hate sort of thing for most people but bear with the simplistic graphics; the real charm is combat, or rather the many ways you can go at it or entirely avoid it. This game is a lot like Mirror's Edge in the sense that yes, you can definitely get good enough and build yourself powerful enough to where you can lay every enemy out with dodges, fast moves and devastating combos - but you don't have to. You can play it smart, use the environment to your advantage (such as throwing lit barrels at enemies to set them on fire, or knocking them into pits, the list goes on) and that's what I love so much about this game. The environments are designed so thoughtfully, to the point where whenever I felt like I had outsmarted the game and done something unexpected, I'd find a little pick-up squirreled away in a corner to tell me that no, t…

A short and sweet immersive sim/RPG that's more on the RPG side. One of many of the explosion of indie imm sims on the market. I generally prefer imm sims that are more Thief or Dishonored flavored, but sometimes some sci-fi is fun too. This game is pretty rough, there's a lot of jank to the combat in particular, but it was a fun little romp that didn't overstay it's welcome. I kinda wish the devs had done something a little more visually interesting with the level design, but the concrete and metal hellscape fits the setting and story. I definitely wish combat was less janky, and that there was more enemy variety. Would've been nice to have some guns. Still, it gets a pass for being short and entertaining within the time it takes to complete. I wouldn't consider this a "hidden gem" of the imm sim genre, as it doesn't hold a candle to the New Blood offerings, and lacks the distinction of something like Cruelty Squad that has a cohesive and deliberate style that sets it apart. There's a good chance it'll be forgotten by the time some of the more interesting in development indie imm sims come out that have a more developed vision and identity, but I'd like to see the developer/dev…

This is a game that shows what you do and don't need to have fun, and what's worth diverting the attention of a solitary dev over. You don't need intricate scripted sequences, though the ones here are used to great effect). You don't need hundreds of diverse enemies who fight the same so long as fighting them feels good (it does) and they're placed appropriately to give you choices. You don't need every corner of a vent system to have an exit, so long as they serve to get you between places. In fact, I'm kinda sick of imsims treating vents as an all-encompassing free network to get from any room to any other room. The vents here reward your exploration by taking you to one or two other places, and they make coherent sense. I remember discovering a vent in one apartment when a message reminded me of the dealer's "usual place", and then realizing that yeah all the apartments I could get into - and some I couldn't! - had the same vent, but they weren't all linked together because hey, there's an entire building in the way why would they route vents through someone's apartment like that? An imsim doesn't need an extremely complicated plot. Corpus Edax gets you to think but it's not go…

Very rough and abandoned. Combat is the main thing and everything else is kinda there, not much in the way of alternatives paths most of the time except maybe a vent or a pipe along the wall, no reason to invest in anything other than strength. Couple of good ideas like dragging npcs to face scanners and extending pipes for platforming. Story is meaningless and just an excuse to drag the player around from grey place to grey place with hole to kick people in. There are better kicking simulators out there.

Great concept, bad execution. Really incredible dystopian type atmosphere but the game falls short in character depth, gimmicky mechanics, annoying combat and overall unpolished feel. The game is also incredibly short and lacks depth of enemies.
