Country Tales: Wild West

Country Tales is a light and easy time management game that plays smoothly and has a simple charm to it. It follows the classic setup you see in a lot of resource and building games. You collect wood, food, and gold, clear obstacles, build structures, and complete tasks before the timer runs out. It never tries to be complicated, and that is part of what makes it relaxing. The story is straightforward. You play as Ted, a guy who moves to a small frontier town and ends up helping fix everything that goes wrong. The cutscenes are short and simple, and the characters have a cartoon style that fits the casual feel of the game. The gameplay is clear and easy to follow. Each level gives you a list of goals. You click to send workers, gather supplies, repair roads, rescue someone, or build whatever the town needs. The controls respond quickly, and the levels move at a pace that keeps you busy without being stressful. It feels clean and organized, which makes it easy to settle into. The visuals have a warm look. The buildings, farms, and small details give each level a friendly atmosphere. Nothing is heavy or dark. An awesome game: an interesting story and a working Linux version. I use Ubuntu 24 LTS.

Definitely recommended. I enjoyed my time with this one. It has polished gameplay, nice graphics and a story to keep things moving along. There are some interesting challenges if going for gold stars and I liked the different objectives to complete each level. It's pretty shallow and won't be too difficult to finish, but I had fun while it lasted.

if you like resource management games, you will enjoy this. Fun resource management and a nice story to move you through the locations. I hope they make a sequel.

This game is okay. It's fun enough. My issue with it is that it's literally impossible to beat the clock. Maybe the first few levels, but after that, forget it. There's an option to play in relaxed mode with no time limits, but then you're not rewarded with any stars, so it's kind of like- what's the point? I haven't timed how long the clock gives you to complete a level, but it's definitely no more than 10 minutes. The last level I did took me 27 1/2 minutes to complete. And while you're playing as fast as you can, the characters are hurling insults at you to work faster, telling you to stay more focused or that they expected better from you. WTF? I've played many, many TM games over many years and I'm pretty good at them. But this one- geez! So if you just play, ignoring the clock and the insults, it's alright, but kind of pointless. The graphics are clean and cute. I would recommend this game only if it's on sale.
