Croak Crusader: Spawn of the Spore Spectre is a weird little action platformer that I ended up enjoying mostly because it has so much personality. I play as Toadman, a strange creature created after a leech is run over by a car and then mutated by alien technology and the wildlife around Radiant Verde. My goal is to make my way through the Canadian jungle and eventually confront Captain Croak. The story is deliberately ridiculous, with a strong old school superhero and Z movie feeling, and I think the game is much better for not taking itself seriously. The grapple is easily my favourite part of the gameplay. I can use it to swing around the environment, launch myself through the levels and move much faster than I would in a normal platformer. It makes movement feel much more active because I am not simply jumping from one platform to another. I can also use the physics during combat, which is where the game gets particularly entertaining. Throwing enemies into walls and floors or ramming them through the environment gives the combat a lot more impact than I expected from such a small game. MAKE SURE TO READ THE FINAL PARAGRAPH YESSS 11/10 I was looking for copper and found diamond I have NEVER, In my over a decade of gaming, across the incredible variety of games i've played, had a game immediately click like this did. The controls were as frictionless a supercooled magnet. Hell, even just looking at the steam page, i immediately knew that if this game was good, it would be perfect for me. It's not good, it's PHENOMENAL. I am slow, not in like an "I'm dumb" way, but in that i take a lot of time and think through just about everything i do, in all of life, in and outside of video games, usually up until something becomes a learned behavior i can do automatically. I also usually like to try and fully understand every mechanic I'm encountering and to do every single side mission. So you best believe, when i say, that me immediately, no hesitation just going rampage mode on all these creatures without worrying about collecting everything and trying to 100% the level, is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ MIRACLE.
