Maribel Hearn is a girl with unusual experience with ghosts and supernatural beings. However, one night she meets a strange woman who turns her life upside down. In Cross The Boundaries you will solve puzzles while trying to stay alive, looking for an answer to what the strange woman desires. Explore the dreamworld and learn about the forgotten fantasy of the modern world, but beware of it's dangers. Cross the Boundaries is a puzzle and exploration game with horror elements and Visual Novel-like story telling. You will explore different stages, pick up items, and solve puzzles to advance. While progressing the game you will learn more about the characters, their fears and hopes. This is a Touhou Fangame but no prior knowledge of the franchise is needed to enjoy it.

Main Characters
Known as Merry by her friends, she is a psychology major with a big interest in myths, legends and the supernatural. Merry is shy and often doesn't speak with other people unless they are close to her. However, she has a big secret, since she was a child Merry has seen supernatural beings like ghosts and monsters. Renko is a physics major who paradoxically is interested in supernatural phenomena. She is very smart and outgoing, Renko is the president of the occult club in university. She are Merry are the only members of said club, and often have club activities searching for supernatural phenomena, in a world that has already forgotten about it. Translated as "the gap woman", is a urban legend that stalks people from places too narrow for a person to fit inside. However, there is something more to this strange woman. She is heavily interested in Merry, and since her first appearance, Merry has been having strange nightmares.Disclaimer

Cool game Heavily inspired by the stories in Zun's albums, while still taking a ton of liberties So if you're expecting just a retelling of those stories, it's a little bit of that, but it's a lot of original stuff using what's already there, which is pretty good The story is nice, the gameplay is pretty simple (it does fall a bit in the end, the puzzles are alright but it's a lot of running from room to room to get items to get clues to get more items and so on) If you like the Hifuu Club it's a pretty nice one to get2 found this helpful

Pretty solid RPGmaker style horror/puzzle, set in the Touhou universe during the album stories (so a bit in the future). The artwork is solid, and I especially like the spritework. Maribel's sprite is excellent and I liked Renko's too. Level design is solid but you revisit the same regions with different puzzles so it doesn't feel quite as varied as it could be. Most of the puzzles were easy to figure out or made sense in hindsight, but there were a few really obscure ones. I liked the darker, creepier take on a lot of Gensokyo's residents, some deviation from canon but the directions taken mostly make sense. There are two choices for endings right at the end, [spoiler]neither one is a good ending for both protagonists, one or the other will not be happy[/spoiler]. Techwise it was fine, I ran the first half on my SteamDeck, the default controls worked perfectly. The second half was on my desktop and the PS4 controller mapping had some issues that I was able to resolve. The Linux version also doesn't send out achievements properly, so switching to the Proton/Windows version worked, and there's a sync achievements option in the settings to grant what you missed. Win…
Amazing game, very touching story that actually made me shed some tears. I'll just add one recommendation for Linux players: make sure to explicitly pick Proton as the compatibility tool from the library page. By default it will pick the Steam Linux Runtime which will look fine at first but breaks achievements and causes some gameplay bugs that aren't there with Proton.
A really great touhou fan game!
A fantastically told, emotional rollercoaster of a story full of fanservice for fans of Touhou extended universe (am I allowed to call it that). Even if you're not familiar with the central characters, this is a great game.
