"This another one of your missions? That’s why we’re here, isn’t it? How many will this make? I'm guessing you've done this, what ten, maybe 20 times? How long's it been? Six months, a year or your whole life? Something tells me you don't take breaks. You know, no one else has to die. You could stop now. Walk away." "Walk away? Could you do that? Could you walk away?” “What is that, midnight?” “St. Matthew's.” “You a Catholic?” “Once.” “From New York?” “Once.” “You still go to Mass?” “Stop now, Red.” “Stop?” “Stop digging.” “You know, a funny thing about New York few people are actually from here. The ones who are they don't leave. They can't, they, uh they feel like the city's a part of them. You know? Until one day, something changes. Maybe they get older. And then they have to leave, they have to get out. See the world, maybe. Maybe they enlist? Where'd they send you?" "You a shrink, Red? Now, come on, you must be something when you're not wearing the long johns, right?" "I'm just a guy." "Yeah? You ever been to war?" "No." "Yeah then don't talk about it." “I've seen some fights.” “Sure you have.” “Well, I almost had you beat.” “You talk about trading hands on a rooftop, Red. I'…6 found this helpful
I personally think it should be free...not enough story or gameplay for the price. I think this game could have been really touching, if the characters, story, and everything else were given more detail and depth. It's not a bad concept, but it just feels like that: a concept, very underdeveloped.2 found this helpful
Part of me really wants to put a positive spin on this game because I want to see more from its creator, if for no reason than to see that cute “Sang Game Boy” logo on another game. Is it anything special, though? No, don’t even think it’s good. I guess when it comes to 2010s RPGMaker games, I’m used to seeing games that are obviously broken or unfinished, while this is simply not particularly deep. It’s a super short game, pretty much a proof-of-concept, and you could argue that it works as such. The writing isn’t cringeworthy, but it doesn’t sound very natural either. For example, I don’t recall ever seeing a native English-writer use the contraction “this’s.” The murder revenge plot, the moral dilemma, and the mystery are coherent, but they don’t offer any fun twists, much less compelling storytelling or character writing. Dear Red neither amuses nor intrigues me. On the flip side, I am neither particularly offended nor bored by it. It has decent direction and is mostly functional. I’ve seen people saying that the achievements are bugged, so I don’t know if I was just lucky or if they got fixed. I’m half-curious to see what the “long” sequel that the developer was pl…1 found this helpful
Bought for the achievements. Genuinely enjoyed this story game and some of the endings were horrifically sad
There's just not much of it. The story has potential, but it didn't really go in depth in the game. I've finished the game and get all available endings (I think), and still didn't understand fully why Red need the revenge, so I'm left unsatisfied. Not worth the price, even on sale.
Developed by Lee Sang and published by Sometimes You, Dear RED - Extended is a story-focused RPG Maker title that blends visual novel storytelling with interactive decision-making. At its heart is an emotionally driven tale of revenge, following a young woman named Red whose life has been defined by the murder of her mother. Years after the tragedy, she finally stands face-to-face with the man responsible, forcing players to determine whether vengeance, mercy, honesty, or deception will shape the conclusion of her journey. Instead of emphasizing action or complex gameplay systems, the experience centers on narrative choices that gradually uncover the truth behind the characters and their motivations. The game's greatest strength is its storytelling. What initially appears to be a straightforward revenge narrative slowly develops into a thoughtful exploration of guilt, justice, trauma, and forgiveness. Every conversation presents choices that carry genuine consequences, making the player feel responsible for Red's emotional growth and ultimate fate. Rather than presenting obvious right or wrong answers, the narrative encourages players to consider the moral weight behind each decis…
