Demon Hunter: Chronicles from Beyond

I'm not into hidden object games so maybe that's why I enjoyed it more than others seem to have enjoyed it. It won't stay in my head as a masterpiece but it was entertaining enough for me to check other games of the genre. I liked that the game didn't feel long or repetitive. Puzzles were varied and alternated with actual hidden object parts, which was also a plus for me. Some objects require some time to find but it never got frustrating. All in all recommended for other newbies to the genre

[h2]Review after 100% :[/h2] This is a pretty mediocre hidden object title. The hidden objects has this issue where the item listed has multiple plausible answers in the image from logical standpoint, so you have to basically guess which one the game actually wanted. [spoiler]Example: ask for rope, image show one rope in form of a noose and another rope rolled up.[/spoiler] The puzzles are simple enough, although if you want to 100% achievement this game, there are 2 especially cursed ones, not because its difficulty or anything, its because of the game jankiness. One in the midgame (the labyrinth maze) and one at the very last chapter right before ending. (the alchemy) This game doesnt have checkpoint save system. [spoiler] So if you care to 100% this game, i suggest you stop right before those 2 puzzle and make a backup of your savegame manually. Bcs if you dont and you somehow messed up any of those, you have to start over, literally from the very start of the game, just to be able to reattempt. This is in all honestly my second time playing through this. I had this game on another platform other than Steam before, so this review is after essentially having completed it twice. I really like the style of this one and I enjoyed playing it. The story is fine, and there are some full motion video scenes sprinkled in, but it is still a hidden object game. So as you progress there are just certain milestone moments like reaching a locked area that you've been working on for a while and you're rewarded with a dash of exposition. But you can understand what's happening in the story and follow the plot fine, it wasn't confusing to me. The puzzles in the game were fine as well. They are all familiar throwbacks that you find as staples in other hidden object games as well, but there is also a great variety to be had. For example some games will have multiple "untangle the knots" puzzles or multiple "spot the difference" puzzles, but I don't remember any type of puzzle in this game repeating, other than obviously the hidden object ones. Granted this is an older title, but Brave Giant-developed HOG titles have always been kind of mid-tier among their peers. They're capable, sure, and there's nothing actually [i]wrong[/i] with the game, per se, but it does things that are annoying (like morphing objects; whose stupid idea was that?). If you're not a completionist, however, you will have fun with this game just fine and don't need to listen to me. Achievement hunters, however, have some things to consider. If you want to nab up every cheevo, then understand that this game is not going to be friendly for you. Among the scenes are sets of hidden objects while you're just walking around; all fine and good, but they are locked to the chapters or acts of the game so if you don't find them all, there's no going back. Second, several achievements are time-based and since there is no manual saving, you get [i]one[/i] chance to get things right or you have to start over again. 2014 is a long time ago, and been an absolute blast for two of Artifex Mundi's releases. Games such as Grim Legends 2 and and Time Mysteries proven to be so promising. However, Demon Hunter: Chronicles from Beyond would like to speak about this matter. I would still forgive this game but only to maximum limits. The game is growing older each day and can serve as a benchmark for the games I previously mentioned released the same year. This installment provided impressive delivery in voice acting. It had lots of collectibles to acquire, four categories, each of one category to have achievements tied to it. Quite intuitive but might feel a lot for casuals. There's also interesting achievements related to completing minigames under time period or solving them in one go. By far, at the time of writing the review, this is the only game that I've seen abundance of that. It can be done in one sitting, but players should be cautious as one delay or misclick can prevent them from completing all the achievements.
