Don't Take It Personally, I Just Don't Like You is a lo-fi, anime-inspired dating simulator about illegally trespassing on government property in the chill of early autumn, having public anxiety attacks in crowded shopping malls, the people we choose to be with, and what we do when they don't choose us back.
You've just made that huge jump: leaving your tiny hometown behind and moving to the city for college. There, you settle into your average college life with your average college problems: awful professors, a roommate who keeps flaking out on you to hit on girls, and the question of who you're going to take to your first fall formal dance. While there are plenty of cute girls in your circle of friends, do any of them, y'know, actually like you that way? And even if they do, the dance is just one date. Who knows what will come next...
In Don't Take It Personally, I Just Don't Like You romance isn't simple. It's messy and complicated. The people you care about will hurt you. You will hurt the people you care about, even if you try your best not to. The people you have feelings for might not always feel the same way about you, and if they do, it won't always last forever. It is a game about the little pains and little joys that come with young love.

I played the proof of concept for this game back in 2020 and backed it on Kickstarter. I really enjoy it. Most of the game has a really comfy atmosphere (most of the time, no spoilers) thanks to the music and the backgrounds made with real photographs. I enjoy using visual novels as a way to kind of vicariously relive a different version of my younger days and this game hits that very specific spot for me. The story and characters aren't mind-blowing, but the game hits a lot of very specific spots on my brain that makes it really endearing to me. My biggest criticism is that the character art is very inconsistent. The style sometimes changes wildly during CG scenes, and some characters (especially Kickstarter backer characters) look completely out of place next to the character models of the main characters. I'm looking forward to the last couple routes being added to the game and eventually this guy's next project.2 found this helpful
I liked this game quite a bit. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and mostly enjoyed the routes out so far. Out of all the routes Sarah's route was the most emotional in my opinion.2 found this helpful

This game is a perfect combination of charming, relaxing, and somehow also a little nostalgia. The dialogue options are actually interesting, and it feels like you're talking to a person instead of just a random NPC with nothing of substance to say. I enjoyed playing all of the routes, and find myself coming back to it when I need a break from real life and my other games. It's a low stakes lo-fi game with a nice soundtrack that is perfect for a rainy Sunday morning. It's a win for cozy gamers everywhere1 found this helpful
