Dreamwalker: Never Fall Asleep

This is a hidden object adventure that does try to do something new with the dream mechanics, but it's honestly trash. There are not that many puzzles and the point and click inventory puzzles are just mind boggling. One very late example, you need to open a flimsy looking box with glass panes to get what's inside. You have a hammer that can perhaps smash the glass, a chisel to pry open the door and a wonderbaum to do, well something (yes the piece of smelly cardbord that is suposed to make cars smell better...). Can you guess what item you use to get in... If i even ask you can probably guess the awnser. Yes, it's that stupid, And that's pretty much most of the games inventory puzzles, this was only one of the very last ones. It's not hard, just completely random what items are used for what even if you have several that feel more logical. The story is also pretty mediocre. Got a bunch of HOG games from a few bundles a while back, some are pretty good, turn of the brain puzzle games (they get super derivative if you play too many in a row since they all have pretty much the same kind of puzzles but I have played some that where good games). In the simple spirit of yes or no, I simply do not recommend this game. That is not to say that it's bad or unplayable. I did just fine and nabbed up all of the achievements in approximately four hours. I liked it far better than I liked some offerings from Mundi's other subdevelopers like Brave Giant, and House of Fables arguably made a better game than they ever have. If you've been around the block and still haven't played this, then fine, go ahead, but be advised that of all the games in the Mundi catalog that I've played thus far over the years, this one has the wonkiest logic and I feel it's a costly misstep in design. What I mean by that is most of the game design hinges on inventory puzzles rather than hidden object scenes (that's already losing some points), but the solutions to those puzzles follow some ridiculous adventure game logic that I haven't seen since the early 90s. For example, at some point you'll pick up the head of a doll; the natural expectation is that it goes onto the body of a doll somewhere down the line, right? Wrong. You use it to open a drawer. Good game. But two cardinal sins... 1. The two sided lock: Pushing key through. This does not exist IRL! 2. Mailbox flag lock: Mailbox flags are used to tell the postman there is outgoing mail. It DOES NOT unlock the mailbox! I cannot stand this. ...also there is moon logic throughout.

Good non standard puzzles, artwork, and HOG scenes but a disjointed story that made no sense at all. Lost in translation maybe? Had a few of the cardinal HOG sins like no backtracking and some weirdly named objects. Also did that annoying thing where on Mac it wants to sign in every time in loses focus. I'm reluctant to give it a thumbs down because the quality is generally high but in the end the little annoyances added up.
