I got this game about 2 years ago in 2022 and when I got it, it didn't work at the time. Thankfully someone found a fix around that problem and now I am able to play it. I've known about this game since the kickstarter and I only played the demo once a long time ago. Since then I've been wanting to play this game for the longest time but couldn't because I didn't own a computer or laptop at the time. So when I did finally get a computer, I got this game back in 2022, when I got it I was disappointed that it didn't work at that time. Now that it works and I've been able to finally play the game I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite games of all time. It's a shame that the game is no longer being developed because I see a lot of potential in it. I love the concept, it reminds me of a game called Asteroids but with Dubstep music and I love that the game goes with the music. The only thing that I wish was added to the game was to give the ability to players to mod/create their own levels and mod their own enemies and ships. IMPORTANT NOTE: If playing this on Windows 10 or newer, achievement/goal completion text as well as the language options won't display. You can fix this by right-clicking the game's executable in FIle Explorer and setting compatibility mode to Windows 7. The dev doesn't seem to be updating it anymore so this workaround is likely permanent. If someone just told you how this game plays, it would sound super clunky and frustrating. It's like a twin-stick shooter, except all you control is movement and your ship only fires based on what instruments and beats are playing in the level's song. It shouldn't work, but it totally does, though it certainly requires some getting used to. Each song has several difficulty settings but the starting one will be quite challenging until you get some upgrades to your shields and weapons, which are purchased using "wubs" that you pick up in the levels as you play. The kicker is that the upgrades are level specific so you have to power up in each one before you can take on its higher difficulties. Some might call this padding, but I think it's a smart system because different songs benefit from different sets of upgrades earlier on. The music is all …

So, I am a Ouya supporter. The game was so standout on there for sure. Took a long time to try the steam version. The game still feels like a dance. But there was many changes, either cause of contract backouts or ending, or just trying to keep up in the market. I don't know about other games in this genre of market so can't speak to how DubWars is now. But do take into consideration the other reviews. I still have my Ouya and DubWars on there. What I recall is, it was more fun and relaxed feeling until high beat intensity so your weapons were maxed and the enemies were flooding in. Then you had to do tighter turns and strategy. The reviews and my test of this version is showing enemies hunt you down hard and lots of down time in shooting. Not used to the keyboard either, but thats on me. Menus changed too, but no opinion on that. Upgrades are a feature that makes sense for a dev and player perspective, just not sure if DubWars needed them. In it's original design.
