Dynopunk

I'm a furry so I was immediately hooked into the demo for this game, where I have more game hours on. I just got to Day 7 in the game during the Science Fair. I love all the characters, esp that hot dino chick with her broken nic vape from Day 5. I assume choices in the game you make do actually matter because of the mood meter. From how long I've played, it seems that the current mood of the character carries on into the following days. Very, very immersive for a visual novel. I like that this "novel" actually has real gameplay where you fix broken items. I've played MANY, MANY furry visual novels like Repeat, Echo, Nekojishi, Tennis Aces, Khemia, Adastra, Sileo, After Class, Major/Minor, Amorous, Blackgate, Extracurricular Activities, Forest Of Love by Carrot, and Hayseed Knight. All of those other games do not have a "gameplay loop" like this one does. And the few furry visual novels that do have some kinda gameplay are all just pointless mini-games. Dynopunk has a literal gameplay loop with fixing broken electronics that loops every in-game day and I really, really appreciate that. I love it. I'm curious to play a Choices Matter Visual Novel before because I rarely even play one. Some Visual Novels I played can easily make me bored because of how long the text can be or because of an overly long description of details I don't care about. But this one fit well with me. The text aren't boring and I like how the main character's monologue are not too descriptive and more focused on himself. Like what he done wrong or what he want to do. It makes him feels like a real person. I also like the fact I can change each character's fate based on how I act. It feels nice to see them understand themselves to overcome their own personal problems. In addition, the characters personalities are really lively, grounded and doesn't feels like an NPC. I genuinely understand how they feel and it really connects with me. The gameplay on the other hand is alright to me. The fixing minigame is good and I think it can help people increase their mouse pointing accuracy. The artworks is really great and the settings heavily reminded me a lot of my favourite Visual Novel games which are Snoot Game and I Wani Hug That Gator. Dynopunk has mediocre writing, poor narrative choices, boring job sim mechanics, and lazy worldbuilding. There are much better narrative games to spend time on, and I recommend games like Citizen Sleeper, Florence, Grotto, Death and Taxes, and Venba instead. The writing is juvenile and basic, and it does nothing to stimulate the imagination. It reads like petty teenage fanfic. Characters are two dimensional stereotypes, and the main character is very unlikeable. I hated the "gotta build a time machine to travel back in time and save my crush from a car accident, but for me, not for her" subplot. There are clear right wrong narrative choices, instead of interesting and nuanced ones. When characters treat you like crap, the right choice most of the time is to take it and be nice to them so they open up and start being nice to you. Empathy and kindness in the face of hostility can be powerful, but like most of the writing in this game, it comes across as childish and naïve instead. The game mechanics of repairing things is obviously meant to be in the background, but it's about as uncreative as it gets, begging the question "why is it even included?" IDK why i waited so long to buy this, the game is so relaxing and silly and the repair shop is only half the game without spoilers the characters and their stories can change depending on how you react to conversations its a really neat mechanic and it gives this a lot of replayability.

10/10 After a wonderful time with the demo, I decided to try the full game, and it was great. Insane twists and turns, difficult choices, and an amazing story. Probably one of my favorite games with plenty of replay value.

Gone blind on this one and don't regret it. I was expecting a repair shop management type of deal and while it's still there it's on the light side of things. The writing is strong and characters are fun and engaging, not all of them but the ones the hit, at least for me, hit hard. I do recommend this one even if the writing can fell a bit bloated and the pacing gets a bit stretched at times. Give it a try if you want something cozy to pass the time
