Egregore is a first-person adventure where you uncover an occult conspiracy in modern Cairo. Using a unique graphing mechanic, you’re empowered to connect the dots and discover a web of intrigue and possibility. Egregore questions what constitutes “truth”, immersing you in a deep and uncertain world.

Egregore is an AGP/MFA thesis project developed in collaboration between USC Games, Berklee College of Music, and Otis College of Art and Design. Inspirations include NORCO, Riven, and The Case of the Golden Idol.

Egregore is a student project with an intriguing core mechanic centered on connecting nodes to solve puzzles and uncover a mystery, which players find clever and competent. However, the game suffers from poor narrative delivery and unclear objectives, with convoluted storytelling that relies too heavily on reading and clicking rather than engaging exposition, leaving players confused about the plot and characters despite the interesting occult philosophy backdrop. Most agree it feels more like a proof-of-concept or prologue than a complete, fully realized game experience.
"Egregore" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from USC in America. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. This student project takes an unusual approach to game design (but not necessarily a good one). It's a point and click puzzle game where you interact with groups of people, places and so on to form the correct reality that unravels an occult conspiracy. I like the node gameplay mechanics which served as a puzzle mechanic. Honestly the story was hard to follow and I don't know what the player's goal is supposed to be (besides trying to progress through the puzzles). The node graphs mentioned a lot of names but the characters were not memorable so I was just connecting nodes to see what works (ended up just looking at a video on YouTube because it got frustrating). I think if the story and lore was delivered in a more engaging way instead of having to rely on constant clicks and lots of reading, it would have made the puzzle aspect more enjoyable.1 found this helpful
Good afternoon indie game, a student project with some bite to it. It's a detective point and click, you're piecing together a mystery by connecting clues, clues that alter the moment so you can gather more information and clues. Cool, simple game mechanic.
An odd student game, but a very competent point-and-click at its core. There's also a lot in here about occult philosophy. Strange, but worth a click through.
the beginning of an interesting concept but not a fully fleshed out game. More like a prologue with no next level.
