Elisa: The Innkeeper - Prequel is a compact visual novel built around romance, fantasy, and player-controlled consequences. Elisa: The Innkeeper: Prequel is a short visual novel that puts me in the role of someone watching over Elisa and deciding how her story develops. Elisa runs an inn where knights, princes and wealthy merchants keep showing up and taking an interest in her. I am not playing as Elisa myself, which is actually a nice change from the usual visual novel setup. Instead, my choices influence the people around her and can push the story in better or worse directions. The whole thing has a simple medieval romance setting, but there is more choice involved than I expected from such a short game. The choices are easily the best part for me. The prequel has three main story branches and represents roughly 20 percent of the planned full story, so I am not getting a complete adventure here. Even so, the decisions can change what happens and can also lead to special items that I can discover and use at certain points. I like when a visual novel actually gives me reasons to think about my choices instead of making every decision feel like a slightly different piece of dialogue. Very boring story and the art is very odd.. Sometimes it's a really well polished piece (like the thumbnail) but mostly it seems rushed and really sloppy..
