Community is full of toxic sweat beards. They like to sit in their billion isk ships they've had since they were teens, with all the skills learned(skills are earned over live time) on a gate, killing random people. It's an actual activity literally called Gate-camping. You can try to fight back, you don't have to, doesn't matter you're dead. The devs have tried really hard to make it easier for new players to get into, and the content has really improved! you enjoy the game, playing for weeks building up your skills, learning how to fly and fight in this beautiful universe. You spend all you're money and bigger, better ships and all their equipment. you experience a lot, finally find a nice, helpful corp. they are in low-sec, no big deal only 12 "jumps away". You head there excited to make new friends, maybe try PvP. Then you go through you're 1st 0.4 region and have you're first pvp experience. All that awaits you is 1-3 "pros" in their trillion isk ships theyve been using for the past 15 years to kill "in-experienced" people. Got perma banned for macro usage without even getting to launch the game / login despite the fact i don't use / have macro's setup & have no interest in using them to begin with, hopefully it'll get overturned but a sad start to what i was hoping would be a fun experience. :(

I want to love this game, and for a long time I genuinely did. For context, I was CEO of a small corp in a mid-size nullsec alliance based in Pure Blind around 2010, and I also occasionally did some diplo work at the alliance level. When it came to this game's peak -- *I was there* I played EVE Online from 2008 until about 2021, after which point I have only sporadically attempted to play. This game has deteriorated into a shell of its former self, and the people screeching that it isn't dying are absolutely kidding themselves and are likely part of the problem. EVE Online has not grown in years; it has shrunk. The population has gone down, and the only reason it appears stable is the sheer number of alt accounts people operate. The merging in of Serenity also gave it an injection of fresh blood to keep it on life support. If you want to go crawl into a wormhole or be a line member in a nullsec entity? I guess the game's fine-ish. For the casual player, however, this game will alienate you. If you attempt trading, the botters will undercut you immediately. If you attempt mining, someone is going to suicide gank you just for being there. If you run missions, enjoy the same content…
